I know people that had their relocate or lose their job before covid hit. They baisically got a stay of execution. All the talk about not working with anyone. Technology is considered your team. Re locating to a hub will show its head soon. It was never off the table just bigger fish to fry. They also said that the hiring was going to increase in India so there is plenty of talented people there too. I work with them. US jobs will likely not be replaced so i would give up the RTO or else you are going to lose good people. They don’t care. They know they can replace you and they don’t care. It is a business pure and simple. Everyone is replaceable.

Saul told Technology that even though you have no team in the office the fact that there are many other technology members and partners you work with is a benefit and RTO is not about collaboration. It is about it is a job. Hate me for saying this but everyone wants to work from home. COVID gave us a chance to work in PJ’s all day. It is over it now it is an expectation. It really is healthy to move get out go to an office and end your day it is 2 and 3 days. Most large companies are doing it. If you don’t like it you have a choice but it is happening and they consider Flex a happy medium. Bottom like is i want my job so i will show up. Complaining and resenting it only makes you hate your job more and it will come through. However, the days i go in the office i wil not work when i get home.

Once everyone is back in the office they will start the colocation of teams as much as they can

RGP is about lost revenue. How many of the restaurants, coffee shops or convenience stores renting space on the first floor of your WF building closed during Covid? Also the lost parking fees, $100 - $200 a month for a spot. In a WF parking garage. That or Chuckles bought a lot of Paxlovid stock and meant to cause the waves of Covid in the office since RTO.

I’m over an hour away and my whole team is in another state. Makes zero sense and I would lose massive amounts of productivity since I work many hours. Insane authoritarian nonsense of we work better together! I’m literally alone when I go in and waste money driving to the train and paying for parking and a train pass.

The ‘green initiative’ is definitely a joke, but I haven’t seen much of that since the current narrative was Covid, then replaced by equity.
Now that people are seeing through both of these shams, green will come back eventually.

Maybe Chuckles is getting kickbacks from fossil fuel companies for making everyone do stupid, wasteful commutes.

So much for the bank's "green" initiatives. Unless "green" is referring to cash...

It makes zero sense! It’s costing us money, it’s costing them money. It’s increasing pollution. It’s increasing traffic. It’s wasting time to and from.

How about when you are in the same office and your manager specifically still uses Skype/teams etc to communicate, even for one on ones instead of face to face.

Can't speak for other groups, but in mine colocation is impossible due to customer distribution and not advisable due to BCP/resiliency either.

I don't have a problem with people working in-office, if there's a need. I did it for many years. My problem is when it's obviously not needed and forcing it is detrimental to employees and the company as a whole, for zero benefit. Not that there needs to be a benefit for the execs to do it, they can do what they want, but as a blanket policy it will fail and as an employee and shareholder I am naturally opposed to failed policies and strategies that are detrimental to the organization. I've been here 20 years. Those in the ivory tower have no idea what needs to be done or what is happening at my level. Their strategy is hamfisted and overly generalized. Mid management should be making these decisions. My group was almost entirely WFH before COVID and was doing so at a very high level. The change is complete nonsense.

RTO is being pushed hard because of the cost of square footage cost.

We use our team chat for questions all day, regardless of who is in office, so that everyone gets consistent and timely information. There is no justification for making folks poorer, more tired and p-ssed off at the company, when remote work is more effective. F—- WF.

At the beginning of 2020, the first attempt at the workplace strategy plan, HR gave me the option to relocate (or take severance) to an approved single location that included:

  • No co-workers
  • No cost of living adjustment (moving from less to more costly pay zone)

I also found out that my location decision wasn't strategic at all, it was by personal choice of a now fired manager.

But, in attempt to be as objective as possible, we work for a large company with a questionable culture where hired executives are entrusted to make business decisions intended to increase shareholder value. We do not have a seat at the decision table.

We have a right to contribute our personalities, emotions, opinions, etc during the workday, but for the large majority of us, the company cannot monetize our intangibles.

We do tasks, collect a paycheck and then go about our lives.

If the task-paycheck relationship is not fulfilling and affects your life, another job or working in another industry is clearly the solution. Not easy for the short-term, yet like the bank's 30 year mortgage, you have to pay interest before long-term gain.

@msl+1l4tojXe Co-locating is clearly not an option. There is widespread process failure due to attrition and an inability to get roles filled in a reasonable amount of time. Not to mention the consolidation of real estate occurring in some cities.

Telling entire teams to relocate would destroy whatever is left of this place. The entire model is set up for remote work - this is why there is incredible pushback. There is no logic to RTO beyond forcing additional attrition

lots of people, get over it. also, be thankful for it because the other option would be to co locate everyone in your group which would mean relo or layoff. Everyone needs to quit their itching and get into the office. you don't like it then don't let the door hit u on the way out.

It’s the new epidemic of employers stealing our time in traffic, and stealing our money in gas just so we can sit in cube farms “collaborating” with our peers in different states and countries. No one on my team is in my office and vice versa. It’s the biggest theft of time and resources (at the employees expense) to perpetuate the lie of “Better Together”.🤦🏻‍♂️

Literally thousands of people. It's a complete waste of time. No one knows if I'm at home or in office unless they ask as idle chit chat, and no one really cares either way. Only difference with the office is the amount of time I waste driving, getting distracted, and walking around the building. Efficiency, yay.
