Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

OP, that’s a bit biased. At least our VP organizes small study sessions for new products...even though that’s honestly something an ICB3 engineer could do.

There is no need for any VPs at Broadcom, I actually welcome our new AI overlords. At least they know how to think logically.

It’s honestly surprising that a VP can secure exemptions for remote employees spanning from 2019 to 2026, that’s a seven-year window!

I really wonder what kind of justifications they’re giving for these long-term remote staff. Are they actually that exceptional? Honestly, you can grow a great engineer from scratch in seven years. Laying off in-office workers while keeping remote ones feels like a deliberate move against company policy.

Does your group have any actual discussions at the manager or director level regarding the specific people on the layoff list? I’m curious if they actually compare everyone's skills, experience, and output before the list is finalized, or if it’s all just decided at the discretion of senior management.

How many engineers can be saved if we let him go?

He remains important to our group. At least he can lay off office workers in the U.S. and India while protecting his legacy remote subordinates in Dublin, Ireland, and making excuses for them from 2019 to 2026.
