Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Unplanning for retirement

The last few years of your career should be your best and most enjoyable as you are supposed to be in roles where you can mentor for succession planning to keep your investment in the company and stock prices continue to rise. XOM has now made those people a target to eliminate. I see senior technical people retiring and some surprisingly resigning before retirement eligibility in a company that is already stretched for talent and experience. Once they get rid of the NRE's which is evident in their plans, there won't be anyone to pass on the practical knowledge on to the next generation. But, do they care?

SME here that left a few years ago, and is now back as a contractor making nearly 3X my prior salary without any of the ranking BS. Works for me.

@OP, hahahahah, you fell for the mentoring time of life bull cr-p?! That was just a ploy to move experienced people out of the way to make room for inexperienced HiPo’s. It was a ploy to take your ongoing achievements and assign them to the latest junior HiPo. Enjoy your VG ranking for now but keep looking over your shoulder for the inevitable PIP.

Any statistics or percentages on how many NREs exist today and were targeted this year for a PIP?

I think the strategy is to keep cutting costs, which includes staffing up in the BTC. There are enough annuitants willing to work as contractors for a time to fill in the gaps.
