Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Be careful of becoming too important to your manager

I've seen great employees kept in place because their managers didn't want to lose them. They make their department looks good, manager looks good, but they end up stuck because their manager sabotages their advancement for their own gain. If you've been stuck in the same position for a while and don't know why, this might be it.

There are no bad managers. There are only upper caste/racist managers that favor certain tribes!

Agree, my path to success was recognizing that my manager(s) were taking credit for my work. I made it apparent to the MD at meetings and at client event(s) when the Sr clients told him they rarely (if never) spoke with my boss. We had a 1on1 after that. That vampire gone now and I'm the lead on the sales desk. If your boss isnt helping you make them look bad. It's easy and rather satisfying.
