Since this is a layoff-focused community, it would be really helpful if people could share companies they’ve found to be remote friendly or that don’t limit hiring based on geographic location. I think that information could benefit a lot of us. It doesn’t have to just be banks or financial services.
I’ve been with the bank 15 years and I used to love it so much that I was hoping to retire here but not anymore.
Fintechs and other startups are where you'll see the most opportunity but you need the right mindset. In return for remote and possible equity you'll put in long hours and will definitely have to provide value. In banking, Flagstar hired a bunch of senior leaders to remote roles but the PE that owns a lot of shares of the bank is focused on building, and digging out of its 2024 crisis. They're incentivized to offer remote to people who can help do that.
Established companies won't have that primal need for value, since their alpha was already built, decades ago. If they need to manage expenses they'll realize it by laying off Americans and offshoring to India.

In this economy of widespread layoffs, I think its not in your best interest to help out your competition for the limited jobs that are out there......

@OP insurance companies like United Healthcare. But pay su-ks and so does the job. If it’s worth it to be remote then go for it. Also state and local government jobs. Not federal. Same issue with pay but great benefits. But in reality, you better have some amazing skills to get full time remote at a job that pays well and doesn’t layoff every other day. Lots of competition
Remote is a unicorn because everybody wants it, move to a city that is near a hub or to a major metropolitan city like Charlotte or Atlanta where there are a lot more jobs. The more people keep whining about remote workers the more it puts it in their ear that you need to be let go because you’re taking up all of the airspace on these calls and I’m saying that as one of the people.
