Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Job Market Unfreezing

Uh oh. Time to start applying for jobs again. I turned down offers in 2021/22 and regretted it. I’m not missing the boat this time. ATT is about to have a major problem with talent retention.

America’s biggest companies say they might need more people after all.

For months, major employers treated hiring as an expensive last resort. Now, a shift is emerging across industries.

Companies ranging from railroad giant CSX to Google parent Alphabet have told investors in recent days that they plan to hire to meet growth goals or to seize on emerging technologies.

The push to expand head count, at least modestly, is a reversal from the prevailing corporate messaging during much of the AI era.

Major employers largely held back on adding people due to economic uncertainties or a belief that artificial intelligence could shoulder more tasks on the job. But some executives say the costs and limitations of AI now demand that more people be added; others want to hire people back following layoffs.

LOL... you think ATT Gives A F about talent any more ?

They went from the best talent in the country to the best talent willing to work in dallas. I have seen real talent leave the company in the past year , people with skill learned over decades in and out of the field, not the paint by numbers and leave at 5pm crew. The leadership has made so many horrible decisions like the TMO merger, Direct TV and Time warner and this latest act is just another biggie. All they can do now is throw bodies at it . They will continue to chop heads and release talent to make their numbers. I am planning on retireing early in JAN 2027, I am done taking on more work because we had to cut people to make a number and I have no intention of training replacements . Maybe it will help retain a few other people a little longer.

@g9 good thing I can code then and also can do AI automations. I’m one of the people doing that work and I’m out as soon as I can. Tired of the bs, the low pay, and insignificant less than 2% raises. I’m going backwards vs inflation.

@OP Sorry it's different skill sets. AI watched keystrokes once reputation figured out, they automated it, so hiring programing skills.

They want people gone. They are looking forward to people leaving without having to pay severance and unemployment.

We have unprecedented job market. Nobody is worried about H1B visas anymore except people living in the past looking to blame something or someone because their life is going nowhere.

AT&T does not have any growth goals. Stank has never been able to grow revenue. He can only cut expenses.

Stank will never reverse anything. Too blind and proud.

Imagine how sweet it would be if Stank has to reverse course on all of the BS he's spewed the last 3 years.

Talk about must see TV.
