Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

So, did anyone else leave the employee forum this morning feeling utterly transformed? Because clearly management thinks a few PowerPoint slides and some forced enthusiasm are all it takes to convince us this “transformation” is the best thing since sliced bread. At least they finally admitted the culture is circling the drain—growth, I guess.

And that shiny new building they want to plop down in Scona? A pocket‑sized QP with all the fancy amenities. Because nothing says “we value you” like spending a fortune on a building instead of, you know… fixing the actual problems. Can’t wait to see what astronomical number they pull out of the hat this time.

@hp ROFL at your comment… MC still thinks employees are lining up to support UW? Adorable.

Recognition awards? Oh yes, the prestigious honor of receiving something you immediately get taxed for. Truly the pinnacle of appreciation.

JW also addressed the “current company culture” — you know, the one they personally ran over, backed up on, and left to decompose. They even showcased ERG events from this year, many of which were nothing more than staged photo‑ops for social media. Meanwhile, employees have zero motivation to participate, and most ERG leads have already exited the building.

But sure… expect big things in 2027.

We need to have more "fun" at work, let's continue to force United Way and other PR initiatives on everyone! Raises?!?! Meaningful careers, benefits, dignity- did you not see the bar graphs on shareholder value?! What more do you ungrateful peons want!

Ok how about we give you all another tax write off gift that will also show up as a deduction on you pay-check?!

It has always been about lowering OPEX or unit cost (or as one VP would pronounce it "OPESH"). No collaboration, no consolidation and definately no transformation. More for me, the Executives, and less for you, the laborers in the vineyard.

I love the speaking down from a bunch of Exxon “leaders”. SM got promoted above a hugely competent Imperial female leader….who is now ki-ling it at Suncor. And we’re left with these duds. Also could NK just stop? We all know the move to Edmonton is not about collaboration, it’s about JW being dominated by Exxon, and being unwilling to protect Imperial.

Honestly, these forums are becoming counterproductive. Instead of building confidence, they come across as tone-deaf and leave people feeling worse.

Highlights of the tone deaf commentary:

The funny thing is the new YEG space will be a lot worse than QP regardless of cost: all WE3, no storage space allowed for any function, no underground parking, I bet the food service will be worse, etc etc.

I held in my chuckle when John mentioned “delivering positive employee experiences”.
