@ar Not true at all. Several prior layoff posts were spot on.

Fun to see the AI slop I’m supposed to be selling finally show up here. So many em dashes. Look, it’s very possible that layoffs are coming, but let’s be honest. Anyone posting here doesn’t know anything, and anyone who actually knows anything surely isn’t posting here.

Middle managers are now one of the most targeted groups in corporate layoffs, with multiple reports showing they are being cut at higher rates than other roles.

Current trends and statistics

In 2023, one-third of all layoffs targeted middle managers, up from one-fifth before the pandemic CNBC+1.

A 2026 report from The Grind Hotline confirms they are the #1 layoff target in 2026, as companies “delayer” and flatten organizational structures iHeart.

Korn Ferry’s Workforce 2025: Power Shifts found that 41% of employees said their companies trimmed management layers in 2025, and Gartner projects that 20% of businesses will use AI to cut over half of current middle management positions by 2026 CNBC.

Why they’re targeted

Cost efficiency: Middle managers often have higher salaries than frontline staff, making them easier to cut when budgets tighten LinkedIn.

Structural changes: Companies are reducing layers of management to increase span of control, speed up decision-making, and integrate AI-driven workflows iHeart.

Pandemic-era over-hiring: Some firms are rectifying excess hires from the pandemic, with middle management among the first to be reduced CNBC.

AI and automation: In tech, AI is replacing coordination roles, and companies are reorganizing into smaller teams, reducing the need for middle managers

@a3 It's happening my friend. Please don't be a head-in-the-sand person. 200M plus in savings promised by your all-weather leadership team who says they love you on every call. All the signs are there, and the post from a couple weeks ago from the agonized HR person, the one who will still cut you, is spot on. If you have an Indian last name you will probably be spared. The rest? It's "independence day" next week! Will be interesting.

This has been said a few times, wish we just knew if it was true.

I have an interview elsewhere next week, and another possible one on deck.

Any idea what areas? Operations is already stretched thin.

This has been said like 3 or 4 times within the last quarter and no one has been right. What makes you so certain?
