I just started a couple months ago. I love my job, coworkers, and even my boss. I finally enjoy what I do at work but then this happens. I could have an option to work as an apartment manager but I would probably have to leave before August. Is it worth staying? I would hate being an apartment manager but seeing how my last job ended with a layoff I saw recently how horrible the job market is.

Original poster: I'm on the business side under BTS. Still trying to decide what to do especially since Wendy the head of BTS left unexpectedly on Tuesday.
I’ve been with the company 25 years, I’ve always said I would ride this train until it derails. There will always be uncertainty when we are subsidized by the government. They will not lay off the majority of the company and if you’re on the plan side, you are in a better position than corporate. The Plans are more stable. If you enjoy what you do, love your Team then build your skillset. Grow and learn. I think they are looking for those of us who have been here forever and at the top of our pay grade to go. We’re more $$ and as SL said, wanting to move into the next chapter of life.
@a6 what departments have moved to automated?
When speaking with the apt. people today, see if you can negotiate FREE RENT or at least a significant discount on one of their apartments, as part of the compensation contract.
Then you can really stack some cash.
Even if the apt. place lays you off or fires you, you'd be in a good spot financially then to move if necessary, should the free/reduced rent apt. no longer be available to you.
Best of Luck!
it’s hard to say. likely depends on your position and maybe your pay, as it’s expensive to hire an employee. look at the job board and see if your role aligns to what they are currently hiring for for future state.
as someone who’s been here for a while, I see it as where they are hiring and where they aren’t. also… look at the recent business areas where automation positions were just posted, that’s an indication to me those areas will be gutted. if you’re in that area, I’d go for the apartment manager job AND continue applying elsewhere.
best of luck to you.
Going from the outhouse to the penthouse!
@a2 I will talk with the apartment today. I need out of heathcare. Last company was heathcare too and the industry is so messed up right now. Thanks!
Grab that job before someone else does, because not *if but WHEN you get laid off, you'll be left with nothing. The job market's rough, and who knows when you'll even get another interview.
RUN!
