Centene, a massive provider of government-sponsored healthcare, is navigating significant operational shifts under the Trump administration's health and budget policies. With major federal budget cuts to Medicaid and changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the insurer has experienced steep membership losses and is actively undergoing corporate restructuring.Centene & The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)Enrollment Drops: The expiration of enhanced ACA tax credits alongside Trump's budget packages has forced many consumers to confront higher premiums. Consequently, Centene—one of the nation's largest ACA marketplace insurers—lost over 2 million members, seeing its exchange enrollment drop from roughly 5.6 million to 3.6 million.Repricing and Layoffs: Because of sicker member pools and lost subsidies, Centene has been forced to reprice its health plans and offer companywide employee buyouts to cut overhead costs.

This comment is proof of that old adage “there’s nothing more permanent than a temporary government program”.
Covid era subsidies included in the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act were intentionally planned by Democrats to be a temporary measure. Initially designed to expire in 2022, they were extended by Democrats in Congress through a set expiration date of December 31, 2025, but apparently Trump is at fault when a Democrat led program ends within the Democrat defined timeline.
Enough of the tribalism in politics. Let’s look at bloated salaries in our C-suite and question why a tax payer funded company has a $20mm per year CEO who has been failing since her first day on the job.
@a5 maybe you'll be fired with nothing lol
@ad I wish more people understood this.
@ag, ditto. this is worse than Facebook neighborhood groups. just miserable a*s people everywhere.
Honestly after being on this site for the past day I’m seeing how nasty some of my coworkers are. For a company that is supposed to be people focused, some of y’all should probably take that VSP and word for Hobby Lobby or Target.
@ad Referring to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as “Obamacare” in the year 2026 tells me all I need to know about your opinion.
@aa The BBB is party specific lmao. Maybe buy yourself a new pillow with the VSP you should take so you can sleep better at night.
No, you can blame Obama for this. Obamacare is not sustainable and cannot stand on its own without government subsidies. As a Centene employee, not only are we paying for our group health insurance plan, we’re also paying for people on Obamacare with our tax dollars. Under Biden during Covid, the increased subsidies made Obamacare premiums so low and our tax dollars paid the difference. Prior to Obamacare, someone could get a good health insurance plan at a decent price. They should have fixed the preexisting condition problem separately and not shoved socialized insurance on the American people. That is why we’re here today, not because it’s Trump’s fault.
Lol. Its funny that Trump is literally the scapegoat for anything now. I personally would say the major reason for the industry being where its at, is Corporate Greed, and Fraud/Waste/Abuse. Literally all politicians have allowed it, btw. So it's not party specific. Nobody cares about the root cause because they can always blame the next politician.
@a3 exactly this.
Agree. Have been saying this administration and the BBB will be awful for this company but everyone (including SL) said no don’t be silly we will be just fine, this is not the first challenge we’ve faced. Ok… how’s that working out?
@a3 take the VSP and go. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out you mor0n
Total mo--ns to think this administration started anything. Obama and his forced insurance opened the door for all the welfare fraud to get even more free Insurance. I am no Trump fan but the amount of working age young people on Medicaid because they have anxiety or dr-g addictions and here you act like it’s just this president. Mo--ns.
