Mike Lyons is Proof

that if you’re handsome and halfway articulate you will get many opportunities to fail upwards.

Only way to explain it for how incompetent he was here

@ae how many leaders do you know that when the company is in crisis he appears publicly maybe 5 times top in a year to staff? Stopped most exec messaging sessions to at least cascade updates down?

The man was not a leader when the company needed a leader and thus incompetent.

He wasn't incompetent. He was set up to fail. Literally brought in to take the fall. I just wonder at what point he finally realized it. I'm glad he jumped.

He was in over his head. Not his fault that he failed. Just wasn’t capable.

Yes he will get another chance and that will be it. He needs to do an amazing job or his career will be over. He is getting a second chance and that doesn't always happen to others.

100% There’s actually solid research backing this up — attractiveness bias affects hiring, promotions, and even how competence gets perceived in the workplace. People often read confidence and likability into good looks, which translates into opportunities that aren’t always earned through merit alone. Dhivya falls under the same category including other executives too many to mention. I guess that’s just human nature.
