Expeditors International, the Seattle-area logistics company known for never laying off employees, cut about 230 technology-related jobs in Washington state on Monday, ending a tradition that had been a point of pride for much of the company’s history.

They do not have a long standing history of not lying people off. It’s just rare they need to because they are a Fortune 500 company. Any time a recession hits, people are laid off at Expeditors. I’ve had a long history with this company, including my own father having worked there for more than 20 years. He was laid off by them in 1998. I had other friends who have been laid off by them at other various points throughout the years including 2008 in the Great Recession and in 2020 for covid. Any company that says they don’t pay people off are either lying or mean layoffs are used only as last resort.
