Mine is to make sure I'm not still working at T this time next year. That gives me plenty of time to leave without accepting offers that could potentially put me in the same or to-similar-for-comfort position that I'm in here. How many have made a similar decision to leave?

I was looking but was involuntarily laid off in September. Last day on payroll was October 6. Got my 6-month severance check and 6 months of health and medical benefits.
I was in shock at first since my sh---y little AVP, who can't do anything technology related without calling a meeting or looking at a job aide, told me I was safe and not to worry. I was still looking to move to another company, just didn't expect to get axed so soon.
I have to say, even though I'm on the bench and looking for another technology job, life is good. I am free of the AT&T Deathstar and free from all the bullsh-t and pi-s-poor management T is famous for. Free from horrible decisions by senior leadership and free from the soul-crushing work that typically drains the life out of people.
There is beautiful life after T, all you have to do is have the confidence to know your worth (regardless of what shithole T thinks), and go for it.

I used to work in corporate engineering. I was in a National position overseeing all the servers. Since leaving, I have tripled my pay.
The problem with AT&T is it’s the perfect place for people with no ambition to work. The company disincentives learning new skills and innovating. Time spent at AT&T is totally wasted unless you just want to clock in, be brain dead, and clock out.
The reputation AT&T has in the tech world is it’s a place where careers go to die. I cannot stress enough how much better life outside AT&T is.

Take the bus to work, show up about 8:30 every day, straight to break at 9:00 for 45 minutes then shuffle emails, 2 hour lunch, few meetings, another "moderate PM break", write an order, catch the bus at 4:30 - home by 5:15.
Vacation, benefits, pay check - why leave?
Why would I leave? Where else can I work from home spending half my time watching movies or home improvement projects.
Unfortunately for many the decision to leave the company will be involuntary whether they are comfortable or not. If you haven’t already done so, common sense is to get your resume updated, work on updating skills/certifications and start job searches. You will be empowered and not feel powerless waiting on a phone call. Don’t wait, be in control of your own destiny!
Most can’t control company decisions but you can prepare for the worst case scenario to help mitigate a stressful situation.
why leave? Working part time hours while getting full time pay.
Left a year ago, company was very good to me over the years. Didn’t want to spend any more time looking over my shoulder for surplus every 90 days. Planned the exit and took some time to find a job out of technology. There are jobs out there for folks, you just need to have the courage to look in the mirror and have some confidence. Again, AT&T won’t be going anywhere, the strategy though ,is to continue downsizing and push customers to non touch experiences. Back office functions will continue to be contracted and as union contracts expire , jobs will be outsourced.
