They have lost all moral respect for human beings .. They feel that giving people a $20 and or 30 $ merit increase per month is going to make someone satisfied and or work in the office ? Has this company lost its mind? The huge CAMPUS that they built in Belgrade only 5 years ago , and now giving people $20 raises per month? Are they serious? They are looking to pay for the same positions a salary that they were paying 12 years ago .. .They are still trying to pay people in Belgrade $800 a month... That story has sailed... Then from what everyone heard is they fired the president of the Labor Union in Belgrade just so the top players could run the company.. This company has become criminal . All people are doing now is coming into the office and socializing all day ... what a waste of work force .. Then again while the GM in Serbia and his buddies are all profiting while they can ... not sure what is going on but people cant live on a $20 pay increase.. this is so low .. this company should be prosecuted

I don't see a problem for young, capable and skillful people with good education to find a better paid job in another company. What is the point in remaining in the company which you are not sattisfied with when you can find a better terms and salary in other one? For tallents there's always a lot more opportunities so take your chances and find a better job. Or you are the prisoners of NCR and cannot leave? Is that what you are telling?
@2fe Bro, that's exactly what the company wants... is people who will work cheap and it means nothing to them.. those people who are living off their parents and or whoever are exactly what the company wants ... they do not want people how actually have to live on their salaries and barely get by... those people who live with parents and use money as pocket change... they can work for free... why do you think they have bene recruiting interns in the last 12 months.. well so they can tell them how fabulous everything is and then rotate them after another 10 years pass by...
@2ev What about young guys/girls living with their parents and treating their wages like pocket money?”
or
People married to wealthy spouses?
...
the Brinks merger should have no impact on our Serbian friends.. business will stay as usual and they will continue paying you around $800 per month for the next decade... you are all safe
@210 actually if everyone would leave company it would probably have to lock the doors and throw away the key.
@26a former socialist now a colony. If there was any signs of organising a union they would all be sacked and ncr would pack up their laptops and move somewhere cheaper. The building (campus) is not theirs, NCR only pays dor the banner. So they would pack laptops and banners and leave
@2d2 nomone can save 200 not even 10 when the paycheck is 800e. It is delulu to ever think that
Any updates on the field engineer team call in the UK?
It is a bit more complicated that that. In Serbia:
Minimum wage is 500e.
Average wage is 1000e.
Median wage is 800e.
To understand this, you have to know that Serbia is weak and heavily corrupted state, so every official information provided by government is quite questionable. But let's assume that the above information is right.
Average wage is useless parameter. By that if you have a group of 10 people, 9 of them are working for 500e and one for 10.000e their average is 1.450e and you can assume they all live fine, but only one is living good, and the rest are barely surviving.
Median wage is better for overall picture, that is the most common wage, around half of the people are working for less and half for more.
NCR know that and gives such wage for entry level position since most of the people have no special choice. Labor market competition is not paying much better either (for such roles, not for more advanced ones)
Also NCR is sniffing sub Saharan Africa for years now, and that is probably the end stop, if AI does not become technically and economically production confirmed viable before that. In that region they have potential to hire people for 250$ for month of total cost for this same position, only infrastructure and some other moments are still a problem ...
@2d2 Yeah but here is the issue... in the US , minimum wage is paid to people who clean toilets at McDonalds as well as immigrants working in restaurants... not people who work in corporate offices... if you are being treated as the lowest paid work force possibly with no education required to be hired ... I mean they can get someone off the street to work that job... meaning they can employ anyone without any education or knowledge of anything.. that is why they are paying more to work at local grocery stories than NCR is in Belgrade... its an absolute disgrace... get out of there while you can ...you cannot live on $800 a month its impossible . They would prefer paying you $400 if they could . The average pay in Belgrade in 2 years will be over $1500 euros.. how will NCR handle that ?
800$ per month, well depends on the person and situation that person it is, family or not, owning a apartment or not, any other source of income or not, living alone or not ...
Only for example lets focus on singe person not owning anything. The way this person can live through the month is by renting smaller apartment closer to Belgrade borders ( Batajnica, Resnik, Borca, ... ) then to city's center, and practicing very modest way of life. Renting smaller apartment on such places would be 250-300 per month, utilities would be 100-150, food 200-250 ( if a person prepares its own food), public transportation is currently completely free ... State's medical insurance, taxes, retirement fund, unemployment are already payed by NCR, also as a perk NCR is paying private medical insurance ... So in the end with such life this income can last the whole month, and get 100-200 in savings....
Problem with such is that you will spend 3-4h per day in traffic, when you count working hours that would mean 12h off apartment, and knowing that you need to get some rest after work, and sleep through the night ( unless yo're stuck with night shift) you end up having like a few hours for anything personal ....
Living closer to the office, eating in restaurants, regular coffee in cafe shop on 7th floor, owning a car is way out of what you can afford ...
So yes, you can be alive with 800e, you will own nothing, but you won't be happy ...
Also all this is 100% legal in regards to local law. Serbian labor law defines 40h work week and minimal possible wage of 500e per month, meaning unless NCR force you to work much more and pays you less then 500e monthly legally you cannot do anything ...
All the field engineers in UK have a teams meeting at 10am today. Nobody has been told about what it is but it is never a good thing no.
Good evening everyone... does anyone have any idea why they have over 100 yellow reflector jackets on the hangers on each floor? Is this something new the company is implementing?
@2b7 yes great point , we have never bought anything there.... we have also heard that other foreign companies in Belgrade tried to get their employees back in the office but in some companies it did not work.. the workers gathered together and signed a petition not to come into the office and from what we heard that happened at Bosch ... the company then had to many signatures of employees not to come into the office and they sent everyone back to working form home... yes that is exactly what happened in that company.. all you need is a whole bunch of people joining together.. but in NCR that's impossible. do to the extreme d-mbness and education of levels of all their employees . Everyone seems to have issues, but is afraid to do something about it . Not to mention all the happy little managers there who think they are managers and on top of the world .. but dress like skaters
@2b3 I'm sorry to say that company doesn't have anything to be responsible for this wage. If there is no upper governmental administration to confront them about that, they will do this. It could be wonderful boycotting going to office in huge numbers. We need to be brave about this anyway. We are going to office to buy something in Shop&Go, from WOK, from menza, from the kafic at 7th floor. That's why they keep us to comming to office. They want spend money on those stupid places. OK, if you go to office. Bring your food, drink with you. Don't by anything around. Even don't use ATMs close by....
so just wondering, seeing all these posts with $800 a month salary... and seeing all these replies how its possible to get by on this salary... can someone tell me... how much money does that person save per month? how long does the $800 last? how long can a person live on $800 in the US? or can they live on $800 a month? how much can that same person save as well? Wake up people , you work in slavery country... and it aint getting better . The person who wrote down that this company should be prosecuted has a valid point .. maybe not the company, maybe some of the people running the show... but then again innocent until proven guilty !!!!!!!!! As far as the windows and coming into the office... I wonder if every single person who is employed goes into the office at the requested times and day and sits there for 8 hours exactly ... per day ... hmmm , but then again why would someone making over 500 K a month care.
It seems Serbs just discovered thelayoff.com and everyday NCR section will be full of suprise posts. Reading some post about syndicates or worker unions, I would expect more from a former socialist country.
OK we see that capitalism is always looking for cheaper labor. And, they gave American jobs to Serbs and now giving Serbian jobs to Indians. Possibly they will give all jobs to AI after that.
Well at the end, if you know the right prompt, you can actually run NCR...
Speaking of fake celebrations... if we’re talking about the most embarrassing moment in this company’s history, nothing even comes close to a certain top executive breaking down in tears on camera while announcing the merger.
But the real highlight is what happened right after. Every all-hands meeting is recorded and uploaded to the intranet like clockwork. Every single one. Except this one.
Apparently the camera had a sudden and very convenient technical failure the exact moment the waterworks started. What a tragic coincidence. Almost like someone decided the company shouldn’t have a permanent record of that particular performance.
If we want to talk about the most embarrassing moment in this company's history, let’s set the record straight: nothing will ever top CEO Tim Oliver literally crying during the all-hands call while announcing the merger.
The absolute best part is the shameless corporate cover-up afterward. Every single all-hands meeting is religiously recorded and published on the intranet for the whole company. Every single one. Except that specific one.
Apparently, the camera "accidentally stopped working" right when the waterworks started. What a truly tragic, one-in-a-million technical glitch. LOL.
That was one of the most diabolical moments in the company’s long history — fake smiles, confetti flying around, and management presenting a breakdown as a success.
Watch out in Serbia when the balloons drop. One of the most infamous moments in NCR history was the split announcement and the wild celebration for all those in attendance at the all hands from GHQ. So many smiles in the crowd……dont think any of them are around anymore.
LARP? Really?
So now I am sure you are mammas boy, probably a bit bigger one, maybe with beard and a lot of LARPing experience ...
Someone give @24m Cheers points already!
Weekend forum duty, Monday morning payroll lectures, free damage control, and full loyalty to the dirty dozen. That kind of anonymous management LARP should not go unrecognized.
At this rate, you might actually earn a spot at the first table in front of the kitchen TV for the next all-hands. Maybe there will be even a free slice from Caldo so you don't have to pay for your own lunch that day. Exciting times ahead...
Corrected version:
So you say the problem is paying to:
go out
rent a car
buy a car
And there is no mention of:
baby food
child care
medical expenses
pension funds
You are radiating exactly this: a mama’s boy who would like better toys.
Brink’s does not need to wake up. You do. They will move operations to a cheaper labour market, and you will be left with the task of finding a new job in a country that is falling apart, just like the company you still work for.
Well kid you would be genuinely surprised on which kind of information are decisions being based. This world is way to different from what you think you know.
I guess if you ever showed at least minimum of interest for a world around you you could have noticed that every month you receive pay slip on e-mail with detailed structure of your salary. Then if you ever had at least few math classes it can be quite easy to determine relation between total expense and the part you get on your banking account. So every NCR employee, and also every employee in Serbia in any company (since you must receive pay slip by the law) have that same info ...
Hope one day you will think on growing up, leaving mom's place and starting to live on your own while being aware of the surrounding and theweay life works ...
@224 Not only is food more expensive, but everything is more expensive.. clothing, going out. leasing of cars.. or buying a car.. paying rent now in Belgrade is nowhere to be found under 500 euros.. utility bills have skyrocketed, people cannot live on $800 in Belgrade c'mon.. its a joke. this company is draining to the last penny .. they are trying to pay people the same salary as they did 10 years ago or even 12 years ago... they need to wake up ... everyone is going to leave anyway.. or will be forced to leave.. and on top of all this they are trying to force employees to come into the office? no wonder everyone is a walking around socializing all day checking in for one hour and then coming back in the afternoon to check out.. what a joke.. plus there are teams that come into the office for a few hours whenever they want... wake up people...smell the coffee. Oh and not to mention all the people who will be coming in swim shorts and sweat pants and wife beaters this summer into the office without anyone noticing ...
We really hit a nerve last night, didn't we?
It is genuinely hilarious that you think the executives at Brinks are basing their multi million dollar global M&A strategy on an anonymous thread at TheLayoff.com. Yes, my post about poverty wages is going to take down the entire Serbian office. The sheer scale of your delusion and self importance is breathtaking.
But my absolute favorite part of your Sunday night performance is you casually dropping the "1350€ monthly cost per person" stat. Nothing says I am just a regular employee and not an HR/management puppet like quoting the headcount cost spreadsheet in the middle of a forum argument. You panicked and accidentally showed your bagde.
The “local Gen Z philosopher” act is getting tired. Especially from someone suddenly fluent in headcount cost, acquisition risk, and management damage control.
Now run along. You have a big day of pretending on Teams, and I am sure there is a Brinks executive on LinkedIn whose post urgently needs your like.
Sunday night, and where are you, doing any different?
So far, you’ve managed to send a message to your possible future employer ( Brinks ) that no one in the Serbian office is doing anything except socializing and eventually unscrewing windows — all that for a monthly cost of 1350€ per person.
I guess you are planning your future role in some marketing department, saying how you single-handedly managed to sc--w over 2000 colleagues during a company acquisition.
Sunday night and you are still here, refreshing a layoff forum like it is a second job.
First it was subsidies. Then market skills. Then Gen-Z philosophers. Now we are down to RAM, mom jokes and Caldo slices. Watching you squirm in the dirt as you run out of material in real time has been genuinely entertaining.
The RAM insult is the highlight. Your best response to people complaining about poverty wages is "you cannot afford computer parts." You accidentally proved the entire original post. Well done.
"Wait until you try a Serbian company" is hilarious. Defending a multi-billion dollar tech company by comparing it to a local sweatshop isn't an argument, it's a confession of how low the bar has dropped.
The people you spent your whole weekend defending are not thinking about you. Not even slightly. When the next round of cuts comes, your anonymous loyalty will appear nowhere on the spreadsheet.
Enjoy what is left of Sunday. Here. Alone. Defending the table you are sitting under. Don't forget to clean your knees before you log into Teams tomorrow.
@228 Well knowing the females here I could bet that he is the sc--wed one ...
Hey, I guess now you need to wait two months to buy 64 GB of RAM for your new PC while living at your mom’s place, so that must be a huge survival problem?
Maybe you can try a slice at Caldo to feel better?
Well, I would like to read your impressions once you hit regular Serbian company. Hope you will be motivated enough to tell them same you are telling here, because most probably even those 20e merit will be just pure phantasy.
Then you will see that there are far worse things then loosing the job ...
Growing up is very painful process for local Gen-Z philosophers ....
Oh look, the anonymous HR cheerleading squad just clocked in for their shift.
It’s truly a beautiful, coordinated effort watching you all line up to violently defend a multi-billion dollar company throwing its workers a pathetic $20 ,less than a tip. Tell us , do you guys/ girl actually enjoy gagging on the corporate boot, or is the lack of oxygen just a side effect of having your heads so deeply lodged up management’s a##?
Nobody is buying this organized little PR stunt. But hey, keep at it! Maybe if you swallow just a little bit harder, one of the bosses will actually acknowledge your existence and take you out for a fancy dinner when they come to visit. Or, let's be real, they'll probably just reward you with a slice from Poncho Pizza while the rest of us try to survive the inflation. Do us all a favor: take your cheers points, go buy yourselves half a spine, and shut the ### up.
Reading this thread, it’s clear there are two types of people here.
The first group was naive enough to actually believe the company fairy tale. Work hard, stay quiet, deliver, keep your head down, and one day those posters about integrity, respect, and career growth might finally become real. They waited. They hoped. They kept telling themselves it would get better if they just proved themselves enough. Cute.
Then there’s the second group. The “skilled” ones.
Anyone who’s been here long enough knows exactly who they are. Their real talent isn’t doing the job, it’s lying to themselves and everyone around them without blinking. They nod, they smile, they repeat whatever slogan is currently in fashion, and they make damn sure they never develop an actual spine or an opinion of their own. No principles, no shame, just flexible morals and a sharp instinct for when it’s time to change religion.
And unfortunately, that’s exactly the type that thrives in this world. While the first group is still sitting here confused about why the posters lied to them, the second group is already busy explaining to everyone why we should all be grateful for the opportunity to get sc--wed. And they do it anonymously, of course.
@223 In India and Philippines are even worse, that is why some of them are immigrating to Serbia in order to do delivery and cleaning.
It is not easy to give such conclusions.
For start how much was average car in USA back in 1960-70 and how much is now, how much costed housing, medical bills, schooling etc ...
You do earn more, but also pay more, then during mentioned period and I could not bet that today for some median income you can live better that back in 1960-70.
Today here food is more expensive then in US, fuel is much more expensive, housing depends on region and type, but medical bills, schooling, services, are all much, much cheaper.
In the end only thing matter is how much of something you can get for monthly income ...
@21w taking a quick look at some research , the following shows The average salary in the USA was around (\$800) a month (about (\$9,600) annually) during the late 1960s to early 1970s. So you are stating that is the current salary right now in 2026 in the Philippines and India and in Serbia? while that same average salary was this amount over 50 years ago in the USA? Boy these countries must be far far behind on economic structure.. That is under 10 thousand dollars a year to live on? How is that possible? No wonder peoples comments are using the word slave in the previous threads
Yes they pay around 800$ to take to home, already taxed . Those are salaries for low end roles.
More advanced roles are played much more, but they are not the majority in Serbia.
You can live out of 800$ if you are single, you can rent some distant small apartment, eat, drink and survive, but not much more.
If you have kids, your partner needs to have at least the same, only to keep the heads above the water.
Apart from comments coming from frustration due to ongoing situation, NCR was quite good company in Serbia.
It never was a company where you will earn some sort of money which will enable you to somehow significantly change your life for better, but it was truly great as a development opportunity for the one willing to develop.
It gave opportunity to a wide range of people, even technically completely uneducated to see and experience how international techno corporation is working.
For the brighter ones gave the opportunity to get expensive technical trainings and than gaining some experience in what was learned.
There was also a great opportunity in getting to know really fantastic people in Serbia and from all around the world and to get connections which could become important later.
Also NCR was fantastic to start a family, because back in the days it was not so common for females to keep their jobs after being on maternity leave ( which is way longer then in US)
To resume, the ones who were willing to fight for a better life, not to wait for some opportunity to ask them to be noticed, to work, learn and invest they got real world experience, met good people, formed connections, educated themself for free, and left the company for better while the labor market conditions were much better then today.
Hello, I keep reading this thread over and over and over and keep seeing a mention of $800 a month? I'm sorry , are you stating NCR is paying employees $800 a month ? I am unable to understand how someone can live on that type of salary anywhere in the world? SO they are paying $800 take home salaries by check? Can someone even live on that ? Is that the salary for everyone or what percentage? So how much is leadership and management making ? They cant be making that same salary? Is this in Serbia or in India or the Philopenas? What is the minimum wage in these countries versus cost of living? IF people can live comfortably on $800 a month then that is great , that amazing actually
Serbia never was the cheapest work enviroment, but it was cheap enough to get university educated people to work in call center.
Today this is not as atractive with 800$ per month, as once was for 500$. ( all those numbers are after taxation )
Also India was at least three times cheaper. Similar with Philipines ...
