We received several brand new trucks with cali plates they are from C and E line crews and according to management they shut down several line crews in Cali!
Does anyone know if this is true and why would they shut down an entire line crew?
Would like to know who and where is next in line if that is true!

There may be some targeted layoffs in C&E but I wouldn’t be too concerned yet. The fiber plan is to still reach 30 million locations and that hasn’t been changed yet. The majority of layoffs this year will be management, specifically positions without direct reports.
so they got rid of a bunch of temp crews is what everyone is saying, but anyone heard if any more line crews getting the ax or we clear out here? please let us know if you heard something
Good plan to use low paying contractors without benefits and turn the country back to a third world country without a middle class.
I hear they are paying employees 90 cents an hour in Viet Nam without benefits. Why don’t the stockholders outsource and remote the Board and C-Suite? Won’t that raise the stock price and dividends? Less salaries, bonuses, office space, club memberships, company vehicles, cheaper air flights, etc…
Company shuts down line crews because contractors are cheaper…less per hour, no benefits etc. Most were shut down years ago.
We haven’t had line crews for decades in the area I work in.
it’s all unsafe plant anyway, 15 years of missed maintenance. beware
In SE Region C&E has been surplussing any vehicle not assigned to a tech, so no extra vehicles to drive in case one is down.
D4 hasn’t had line crews for a few decades. You throw up a ladder on plant placed by the lowest bidder in the junkiest equipment they could rent. Lucky I had a bucket. Lost count of the strand clamps not tight. Turned them in as hazardous and was told to quit using the hazardous tag or face time off.
This has been talked about on this site since August/September. In Mid September, they shut down 2 term only OPT yards in San Jose, and South SF, after providing 2 weeks notice. At the end of November, they got rid off all terms on a team in a permanent yard in Santa Clara; some terms in a permanent yard in Stockton; some terms at a permanent yard in Modesto. The terms that didn't get cut in 2022, maybe Q1 in 2023.
It is easy to shut down an entire line crew if they were in a term only yard with no permanent OPT/Lineman. It is easy to terminate term employees on a permanent crew or yard because Term employees have no protections for length of service. I believe this also happened in Bell South territory this year, and in 2019 when the original Gigapower project was completed based on FCC requirements for number of passings after the DirecTV purchase.
It can be frustrating dealing with someone who doesn’t use or understand common sense.
I think they just rid of term OPT’s, which usually drive the large bucket trucks and maybe an underground 60.
