New CareerConnect - D&S - Job Titles

I have over 15 years of experience, and I’m given the title of “Associate,” meanwhile someone with less than 2 years of experience is given the title of “Advanced.” I took the new D&S training. But frankly, this is BS. Heard that HR made all of the decisions and can’t even explain to management how the assigning works.

The D&S titles can be independent of your IDM title. So, if you're an "Enginer-Expert" (D&S), you can keep your "Grand Wizard or PowerPoint title".

Ranking session is one super devaluing the other team and over valuing their own. From safety to eval should be local with raises done the same. Ranking me with a person from another group in another country cannot be rationalized.

May be stating the obvious, but all these random meaningless and lowly titles were designed solely to prevent you from shopping your resume externally. Just another HR dirty trick to suppress wages and keep us from reaching our potential.

For years, the ranking process has leaned heavily on perception, narratives, visibility, and loud bloviators who consistently overshadow those who are actually doing real work. Career Connect was introduced to counter that. It gave employees a structured, supervisor-validated way to document their work, goals, and growth over time, a kind of ledger of truth. It was about creating a consistent, factual record of contributions that couldn’t easily be diminished by the same mouthpieces dominating ranking sessions. It gave people confidence that their accomplishment were being captured in a legitimate, transparent way that validated real work over the long haul. And now, thanks to Polaris or whatever this is, it’s been replaced with opinion again.

Years of experience mattered because those experiences are what build the skills reflected in the skills assessments. The work on projects, participation in committees, and hands-on contributions are what led to higher skill levels. But now, with the introduction of a new system, all those experiences have been wiped out. Honesty, I'm so tired of these dorks and their thoughtlessness. They set up a career tracking system over a decade ago. We filled in all our goals and tracked our work, training, accomplishments etc. and then they just decide out of the blue, reset. Though I can see why none of this matters to younger folks making decisions. It's easier to reset history than to recognize it.

@OP Just because you’ve been doing something for 15 years doesn’t mean you’re good at it.

If I had $10 for every O&G guy I dealt with who was thumping his chest about his years of experience yet couldn’t think his way out of a paper bag, I could probably retire today.

If you’re really that good, you should have recruiters blowing up your phone and LinkedIn. My guess is that isn’t happening.
