Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

New Tactics

Is the lack of managerial support a new Humana tactic to quiet fire employees? Have you noticed a lack of leadership? I have and I’m pretty sure Humana is using this new tactic to motivate you to leave.

I am in management and I have so many ideas and things I want to implement but I don’t have any support or buy in from my manager. He plays favorites and I am not one of his favorites. It’s exhausting. It’s unfair. I apply for jobs internally and it never moves forward.

It is absolutely true that leadership, not all of the middle managers, but definitely associate directors and higher, use terms like "good attrition" when they have someone quit who they feel does not bow to their whims. This happens all the time and they do not care about you.

I have no problem with autonomy and don't need my manager to micromanage me, but I do need them to share strategies from higher up, show up to our 1 on 1s, and be able to explain my performance review. My manager always shows up to meetings 15 minutes late or not at all, sometimes with no notice and doesn't reply to any emails.

The managers I have met have no ability to create a vision or strategy and less have any people skills. Not sure how they got their roles! They can schedule a meeting in Outlook - but sometimes when MS pushes out an upgrade they can't even do that!

They also exclude you so dramatically from everything, treat you like a second-rate human being, and claim all your ideas and give you menial work when they want you to quit. They tell you they value you but also bludgeon you mentally.

In SNP, the latest new managers (as of a couple months ago or so) are the WORST I have seen in my 13 years here. Just WOW. Who tf hired these people? This one seems like she has gotten every bad trait of any of her previous managers. They are USELESS... Only 1 of my previous managers (I have had 6!) has been not only knowledgeable, but responsible, and also a person who was always ALWAYS supportive of her associates.
And YES! it definitely feels like they're trying to push people away (another technique besides OT, extra work, no bonus, and on and on)

I only wish that these messages reach people that are thinking about getting in this shithole... Please, don't.

Glad I saw this because I thought I was just being paranoid about my so-called "manager." Guess I'll focus my paranoia more on the complete lack of job security and unachievable metrics.

Nothing new under the sun and those horrible leaders with 100% turnover get promoted and are awarded for their lack of leadership .

IDK, seems like some areas have managers doing everything but manage their team.

You can look at this a couple of ways. It's either what you are suggesting or leaders allowing the associates to take charge and do the work without micromanaging, I'm thankful my leaders trust me enough to do the work and not breathe down my neck. If anything lead the leader. However if you need someone to tell you everything you need to do and provide more guidance and they are not helpful that is a problem. Depends on your role. If your leader is never around and barely communicates that is a problem potentially unless they trust your work. Speak up and talk to your leader or skip a level and ask for a meeting with their leader if you can and feel comfortable. It's not easy navigating this but don't be afraid to speak up. That's the only way change can happen.

YES. My manager in the SNP dept takes off 1-2 days a week. When she IS here, she is usually always "mobile" half the day. No help at all.
