Do people get laid off within the first several months of employment? I desperately need a job, but I don't want to join, stop my search, and end up on the street again within months. Thanks in advance.

You will be part of the next round of cuts if you VZ now.
@e8 if you are part of the South Asian Mafia, you’re not going to get laid off
You would be an id--t to do so unless you are an AI genius
@bk true story on Lake Mary. leadership who scr3ws around forcing employees to create mini golf courses. tons of examples of Lake Mary leaders ignoring or facilitating employees who dont do work. shutting Lake Mary down would be a good business decision if they are serious about stock price.
original poster. dont join th company because new hires are usually the first to be laid off
@dg you mean the war industry, right?
I’m glad I took a job in the defense industry
I wouldn't board a sinking ship.
There was a time when a scammer with a good line of BS could make bags of money 💰 at the mall. It seems those days are coming to an end. The new CEO seems serious about bettering the company.
Verizon is the place to be! Especially in Lake Mary. You can get caught lying to your boss for years about being MIA during work and nothing happens. You’ll survive the rifs! It’s easy to do nothing and go to the gym and play ping pong when you feel like showing up once or twice a month. Bonus and stock pay out well. Say you’re flexing time, disappear for hours out of the day, send a drunk email at 9pm for appearances and you’re all set. Welcome to Verizon!
Terrible advice by all here, VZ is a great place to work. Great benefits, good work life balance, and solid pay given what we do. I've advanced to mid 200k salary including benefits, and a 401k worth almost $2M. You can do it too.
Youre better off passing on any of the wireless companies….
It beats being unemployed and it is often easier to find another job while you are employed.
If I was unemployed and looking then I'd probably take a job here but would continue looking elsewhere. Things at Vz right now are not great but there are many people working here that have been with the company for decades so for some it must not be too bad.
At the minimum, it will add employment history to your resume, you will get good benefits and a decent paycheck. If you already have a job then I would not recommend coming here.
I got hired along with one other guy, whom got caught in a layoff 1-2 months after he started.
what benefits are cut everything same other than stock awards unsure for this year
Depends on the job. I’ve been at risk of layoff for 30 yrs now.
Accept the job and keep your search alive!
@a9 Indeed, the party is over. Telcos became dinosaurs as broadband is becoming a ubiquitous utility like electricity. Telcos largely failed to innovate and tap into the AI bo-m although the AI revenue streams very much depend on a reliable, high bandwidth communications.
As internet became critical in many developed societies but at the same time telecom infrastructure is expensive to maintain, it may be eventually nationalized, at least in some countries. In the US, wireless might be eventually dominated by SpaceX unless some other administration in the future does something about it - similar to the breakup of the Bell System.
No, steer clear of any job in telecom, a dead end career in a dead end industry.
What type of role? Retail?
In a word, no.
@OP if you don’t HAVE a job already….ok…but don’t quit your current job.
I hear that the CEO position is open
NO! That’s exactly what happened to me. This place offers no job security AT ALL.
no. all benefits cut to the bone
