Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Director told me they plan for a 10k WFR this spring

Not sure how true this is but my director said they heard rumors - just rumors - that a 10k WFR is planned for the next 3 months. At least half of which will be in February and March. I do know they are part of a leadership TEAMS chat because they told me so. I asked which orgs were being hit, or likely to be hit and was told that from what they have seen in the chat, ISG, CSG, Sales/ISR's are being targeted, along with higher level Maverick folks.

idk how true this is but this is just what I was told this morning.

@c9 you have no idea what you saying

MD made $30 billion to his own pocket from DELL that was losing money - by EMC and re-spin of VMware, now has $80 billion company on top of what was $20 billiomn DELL Inc before.

@ch I doubt it... This post was a literal troll post - I am OP. There will be layoffs 100% but my real guess is that it'll be under 3k total. If Dell is trying to hit the 90k employee headcount then they don't have far to go at this point as it's likely in the 98k range right now..

@cc
"...Truth is dell is a dumpster fire of a company...."

I think the opposite - stock is strong, company is printing money. It's just brutal for some of the employees, because a lot of the creature comforts that used to make Dell great no longer exist.

The company is increasing revenues, sales, margins and market share in just about every space that's profitable, other than storage - (what does that say about the legacy EMC business model?).
PC's are in a bit of a slump right now - this is the same for Lenovo and HP - and will turn around on the next refresh wave.

3 quarters of my group is TOTALLY worthless. Dell needs to fire a lot more than 10,000 workers if it wants to survive.

dell is a joke corporation, they promote yesman crowd only so go figure why every project is a total failure sooner or later.

I expect massive cuts in ISG powerflex this year either now or september after the "new big plan" will fail again like the one just failed, but worse.

I would fire marketing people, AI could easily replace them

It does not matter 10k or 5k. Truth is dell is a dumpster fire of a company. It has been that way for a long time now. Leadership is very lacking and, frankly, irrelevant.

During the great revenue years of covid WFH, they started liquidating the company instead of re-investing in it.

Low-budget outfit trying to beat its chest and gas light its employees as if it's some sort of tech mecca. It's a joke inside and out.

Someone here said "dell is closer to AOL than AI." No truer words have been spoken.

Last Feb to this year Jan, around 10-12K reduction has happened throughout the year. So if this is what you mean by spring 10K head count reduction happening, it has already happened.

There will be another 10-12K let go in the next 12 months. 15% reduction for the next fiscal year is the target.

@c8 it is no surpise , they bundled EMC a specialised storage company then , Enterprise Ultra High End mindset with a logistics company that sells desktops and laptops that allready had 3-4 different storage technologies from acquisitions , even if you are Merlin the Magician , you can't integrate that , no way . I think MD greatly regreted this and the 60-70B he gave away , that is still in the balance sheets as a debt. Plus that tech was top 20 years ago , who buys Symmetrix or whatever it's called now ? And Data General Remnants .
Good luck to all , i think that sooner than later the company will have to decide which side of history it will choose , that is one he-l of a difficult choice . I foresee a merger with someone for PC's and Servers and sell off , of the storage group for it's base and not the tech , that is long gone

@bz The truly aggravating part is Dell bought the #1 storage company in tbe world and on day 1 decided they needed to fix what wasn't broken.....

It is expected . Think about it what is DELL today , a bundle of do all H/W only legacy tech , the last one remaining (from Gamer Chairs and laptops to enteprise storage and AI) that is trying to be all things to all customers (lenovo too .. maybe) and H/W Only without excelling in anything in reality , wilst most of the competition is ultra specialised and focused , others in PC's laptops desktops like Apple , hp , ASUS , others in Networking like CISCO , palo alto , Fortinet , F5 , others in Storage like Pure , netapp , hitachi , VAST . DELL ain't nowhere top in anything , they just try to win deals by bundling some server with some storage and some networking . I hear a lot of customers abandoning ship especially in the Storage market , as many tech problems are reported , downtime , unflexible practices , IMHO MD now in his 60s needs to decide what the comapny want's to be , if it survives the ''specialization'' era by remaining ''generic do all''

The folks I feel most sorry for are the recent college grads who thought it was a great idea to come and work here. Like the rest of us, they've worked their butts off to get on the Corporate ladder. They arrive with energy, excitement and an expectation that somehow their work will help shape the future. Then the very people who were supposed to be there to mentor them, meaningfully challenge them, support & encourage them are being run out of this place. All they hear about is WFR's, just do the bare minimum because you'll receive no recognition for doing a great job, no help with structuring a career plan because their people manager is responsible for 20+ others, has to keep the lights on and doesn't have the time or energy to focus on your future.

If you're young, you need to find somehwere else outside of Dell - you are at the perfect stage of your life where you can take risks. Join a start-up, start your own business, fail but learn. Do something that will really shape the future because you're not going to find the future here.
