Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

My main reason for leaving BNY

I left the company not long ago, and it was completely my choice. The deciding factor for me was management. It wasn't just my direct manager, the problems with poor performance and a total lack of clear direction went up at least three levels above me. When leadership at that many levels is ineffective, there's just no future in staying. I saw the writing on the wall.

I left due to forced ranking; I was placed on a PIP and told that 50% of the team was expected to be rated 'below expectation.' I witnessed sudden firings and overheard plans to cut nearly half the team. The culture was also an issue: remote workers were unhelpful, and in-office staff felt held hostage by senior and remote members who gatekept information and processes. On top of that, tensions escalated to private shouting matches between my boss and me. Honestly, I am disappointed with the bank, but I hope things improve. I’m a strong believer that people in a team should help each other and move the mission forward, but instead, it felt like a 'Hunger Games' or 'Highlander' match between in-office staff and senior remote members. If I were a VP, I would fire the remote staff for holding information and processes hostage from the office staff.

The current leadership set are simply manning the gallows. They have zero strategic vision aside from preying on their own employees for profit.

You made a wise choice and are lucky that you had enough eeff u money to rely on while you got something else. Too many people are trapped here. Spouses, children, mortgages , bills are more than responsibilities. They can be a prison cell if you don’t have an escape hatch. This place is immoral, unethical and a loser. By staying here, you only help support that. They count on you being a victim.
Always save for a rainy day.
