Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Here’s what will happen:

A big personality will have convinced the powers-that-be that he can make a difference. He just needs to enact his special game plan.

The new year will start and the plan enacted. People will move, scores will be settled.

Then they’ll take their new recipe for the same cow patty, ball it up, and throw it against the wall. It won’t stick. It will run down the wall and slump to the floor as always.

They’ll adjust this strategy throughout the year. Same effect, with more score settling.

At the end of the year, the cycle will begin anew with a new big personality.

They were completely un-educated in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, and every other field related to the design and production of large complex software projects.

Photographers and Foresters are not trained to be CTOs. They did the best they could.

No secret love children will be affected by this. They’ve failed upwards, at least twice. They will try to convince you that “they’ve earned it”.

And herein lies one of the problems with working for this company. There is an illusion of merit-based advancement, without a real connection to real business metrics.

Not stealing. This was worth reposting. Someone may well have offered a plan to cut costs by eliminating middle managers. If so, upper management may well have thought that a great plan.

But if that is the plan, it will only work a limited number of times.
