Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

I’m genuinely worried about possible layoffs

I imagine many others are too. Around me, it’s mostly middle-aged folks like me, with mortgages, families, and bills that never stop growing. I’ve been looking for another job, which has only added to my anxiety. My wife’s position is also uncertain. What on earth will we do if both of us lose our jobs, with other options almost non-existent?

I hope they open the VSP to everyone, there are quite a few people unhappy with leadership.

@OP maybe they will go for an expanded age limit on the vsp, then you younger folks won’t need to stress

Man, did you pick the wrong profession. The oil business is just like pro football. The talented ,lucky ones have a long career and make big money. Others are one bad tackle from a career ending injury and now sell life insurance to pay the bills. Quit buying German SUV's and start saving for an emergency fund that takes some of the stress off if you are displaced.

Save money instead of spending it is one approach.
You should have at least one year of emergency savings. Also, don’t buy expensive luxury cars and the most expensive house the banks will loan you money on. If you keep your current house pay it off early if the interest rate is higher than 4%. Basically be a penny pincher spending just enough for basic necessities.

Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.

How about you enjoy the new year and stop posting your pointless rants. If you get laid off, you get laid off. The world will keep spinning.
