Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What an id--t

"Famously brutal Fortune 500 CEO reveals the three rules every American must follow to avoid getting laid off as job apocalypse spreads"

Internet Archive version - https://archive.ph/DwCYF

His 3 points:
1) Go to the office every day - 'One of the problems in our society today is isolation. And working from home stems more isolation.' - Stankey

So he's worried about our mental health now?

2) Take AI training classes, NOW! - dang, I agree with Stankey on something. It's a sad day.

3) Forget loyalty, focus on results - He described the employer-employee relationship as transactional and constantly up for renewal.

Every day, you have to earn your keep at the company,' he said, adding that, 'similarly, the company has to earn the right to your skills.'

Funny. If we really went by his own measure, he should be the first one fired.

Be the most expensive employee AT&T has ever had. Collect the paycheck and do the bare minimum. Do not suggest, do not attempt to clean the mess, do not do anything other than what's required of you. Do not volunteer. Do not be a hero. Pretend you are d-mb and does not know Excel.

'I hate to break the news to people, but there are members of my family I would not hire,' he said.

Yeah, but the 💩 saw fit to hire his own daughter!

In Stanks 40+ year career with AT&T, he went from sniveling entry level employee to a pompous narcissist failing CEO. That’s quite the accomplishment!

Jeez wouldn’t you love to be a part of his family?

The stock is down 10% since Stankey’s inane rant. By this “Famously brutal” CEO’s logic, he should be out on his @ss post haste.

And why the he!! Is he galavanting to all of these conferences? Get your shiny bald @ss to the office!

Yes study that AI hard guys.

Just like the last reskilling with Donovan, they'll throw you out anyway. And if you use Ts bargain basement training resources, you'll have no skills any other company wants either.

@ad Yes words don't matter. He rings hollow, like last year's gourd you replace in fall.

He'd better hope his wisdom is never applied to his own situation.

When John Stankey speaks, no one should listen.

Lol...wishing for WFH is beating a dead horse.

You guys abused that and ruined it for everyone.

Covid is over and RTO is the industry standard. See you chuds in the office!

@cv I can tell you that from what I’m seeing, job posting are increasing as we approach the new year. And a LOT of them are at least hybrid, if not completely virtual.

"Every day, you have to earn your keep at the company,' he said, adding that, 'similarly, the company has to earn the right to your skills.'"

So... what exactly is AT&T's value proposition here? What are they offering the workforce to "earn the right" to their skills?

  • Pay and benefits at AT&T are average. Not awful but nothing special.
  • RTO has put the company at the low end of offerings for flexibility and work-life balance.
  • Closing down offices with more and more jobs going to downtown Dallas. That equals long commutes, expensive parking, and a growing homeless and crime problem around the campus.

Right now, the job market favors employers. People will be slow to quit a steady job. But that will cycle back the other way at some point. Once the market favors employees, what will entice people to both come to and stay at AT&T?

He should have been terminated by now if these words are the real deal.

And what are they offering to employees that learn Ai? From what I’ve seen, nothing. They upskill like that and it’s a super high demand skill then they leave for another company with higher pay. A lot of people talk the Ai game, very few actually know how to make it work other than ask it some questions
