Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Is your pay keeping up with the Inflation?

Mine is not. Adjusted for inflation, I am making less today than I was making 10 years ago. Just saying.

Thanks @kn . I was expecting to be laid off at some point this year so I can’t say it was a total surprise, but it happened way earlier in the year which did catch me a little off guard. I was the victim of office closings and being forced to work from home. I gave so much of my life to BNY. Pretty much all of my working years. I started there in my early 20’s. Always had great reviews. Some years (in the beginning) the merit increases were great 5%-7% . Other years they were awful. Even though my performance ratings were good the increases started being 1%-1.5% . I miss the people I worked with. I can say the day I dropped off my laptop to be shipped back it was like a huge weight had been lifted. I’m much happier now. Sure, I miss the steady paychecks especially at this time of year, but luckily my husband works full time and I have a small part time job that brings in a little extra cash.
I hope you have a good holiday season and wish you well in the new year!

God bless you. You obviously were another one of us who believed in this place, worked hard, did your time and you were very well
Liked. Of course you made a big difference in people’s lives and clients lives. You are proof that money isn’t everything. Unlike this disgusting animalistic senior management, you have class and soul. I probably knew you as I am old timer too. It sounds like you landed on your feet and are doing well. I hope you invested well. You deserve the best!

How about this one - I was hired over 20 years ago. Started out at about 25k (laughable, I know). Fast forward to last year or the year before when they made the minimum hiring amount 47k or something. What a slap in the face. Anyways - got laid off earlier this year and was still only making about 51k. What a joke. I’m so glad I’m out of there. I still come to this site every now and then to offer hope to those who are nervous about lay offs. The grass IS greener on the other side!

Obviously you are not paying attention or your comveniently forgot. When the prior mindless administration borrowed a trillion dollars and wasted it on pork, you get inflation. And it was double digits then. And what’s more? It takes years to recover from and prices are the last thing to move down or hold until wages and income catch up. 1977-1980 was the same under that weak admin too. And it wasnt until 1983-84 that it got inflation and pricing under control. Bonkers was the reckless spending and borrowing. Capeche mon ami?

@a6 I am with you in that inflation part but blaming it on prior administration is bonkers and let’s talk about the current one? Even assuming the prior one was cr-p what steps has the current regime take to stop outsourcing? Workers suffer and unfortunately folks like areplayed by politicians

@OP then look for a new job. If you are that miserable and that unhappy make the efforts no matter how long it takes to leave. You said you've been here 10 years that is a decade worth of experience so you either are a drone robot with no good skill sets and go through motion or lazy to look and will just complain.

Unit investment trust was notorious for really bad raises. There were years where I recieved .8% raise and told you are lucky to have a job. Damn sweatshop! I have been out of bny for over two years and never have I been happier!!

It’s not just inflation- which is directly the fault of the prior feeble administration. It is forcing us to commute more with higher train and bus costs. Gas, tolls, parking. Making us use buy devices that are only supported by BNY. All while getting pathetic raises of 1.25%.
What can you do? Simple. Bring your lunch and snacks. Dont buy a new car and have one with no payments. Keep insurance to a basic policy. And use your company issued laptop only . Don’t buy devices just to help BNY BYOD. Max out your 401K. Buy commute tickets pre tax. Take basic vacations or just stay home. Dont buy new clothes for this dump either. Do all this until you get a new position elsewhere.
