Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VZ's Implosion

VZ used to be a proud company... with a clear identity has turned into a hollow shell that's just bleeding subscribers while charging premium prices for sh---y service.

We're basically watching the Sprint playbook all over again - gradual decline, pieces of the business getting sold off, and a CEO who's more interested in appeasing Wall Street than actually fixing what's broken. Schullman sat on the board for 7 years as lead director while big H drove VZ company into the ground, and now he's suddenly the savior?

His track record speaks for itself -- fu---d Virgin Mobile, PayPal stock tanking 70% under his watch, should be expect different here??? sure, he'll turn us around this time.

And... hypocrisy of it all... We spent $50B on 5G spectrum that doesn't even provide decent coverage, bought fu---d piece of junk Frontier for $20B cause apparently we need fiber after Lowell ki-led our FiOS buildout years ago (we could've had 25 million fiber subs by now) and somhow the solution is cutting 13K jobs??? And increasing exec pay for this gem of a strategy????

All this is happenin while T-Mobile is eating our lunch because they actually invest in customer experience instead of just slashing costs.

The writing's on the wall this restructuring is just sh---y code for a slow death spiral with quarterly RIFs becoming the new normal (there is a thread on this).

Mark my words, we're looking at another 5% cuts per quarter with jobs shipped offshore while leadership pats themselves on the back.

OP this is one of the best posts I have seen here!

VZ never recovered from the last big RIF in 2015. Look at what's happening to the wireless subscribers. VZ is basically flat over a decade. T-Mobile overtook AT&T more than DOUBLING it's subscribers and is nipping at VZ's heels for the #1 spot. Does VZ really think giving RIFed employees access to the employee phone program for a year will help? I am already in the process of porting my eight lines. T-Mobile as a customer off the street is still cheaper than the "V-Team plan."

I always thought VZ was too big to fail, but it has been poorly managed and losing talent and generational knowledge isn't going to make it any better.

@OP: OP: Verizon has an abundant number of "Asian-Indian" employees with an H-1B visa status eligible to work whereby displacing US citizens.

@OP: Dan's prior experiences were all failures. Han's previous experience also were failures.

Simply ridiculous and the curse continues.

T-Mobile laughing all the way to the bank with their new Asian-Indian CEO.

@a4: completely inaccurate about issues delineating with outsourcing to the Infosys Ltd., Bengaluru, India. Verizon's miscue is a result of a poorly accepted transition plan for onboarding the Infosys resources.

rumor is infosys took over a large support group and they do not have access to perform any work and now more people are cut to add more infosys support.
I fell off my chair when I heard that.

5G is failing because of the over hiring of people who are looking to take advantage of the freedom of the job versus actually doing their job. It was time Verizon took accountability on having the wrong people in positions that they should not be in — PERIOD.

I strongly believe Verizon would’ve been in a much better position if they listened to their external partners more often. They know more about the customer, their habits, their purchasing habits, and everything else that Verizon has dismissed for far toooooooo long because they want to keep ideas internal. At the end of the day, Verizon failed its customers. Business is about consumer satisfaction — no board or CEO can go against the consumer and expect to survive, especially in today’s economy and state of the country.

It’s unfortunate to lose a job, but if you were doing a sh***y job, you took a good career for granted. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
