Seems like this merger is only to satisfy Vena's ego. He knows he has to fire people and he is still making lifetime employment deals with the unions. He just wants to get this merger through to be recognized as "the first person who connected both coasts with rail". He will then quit like Boris Johnson had to quit after Brexit. He will be known, but at what cost?

Vena is the biggest POS to ever exist in the rail industry. He lies to his customers, his employees, and to the President of the US. No way will a merger create more jobs and be beneficial for the American people. With this monopoly, the UP will raise their prices to all their customers and that higher price will trickle down to higher prices for the end consumer. He lied and continues to lie. You think your job is guaranteed with a merger and union agreement? What do the unions do when the company violates the agreement? Nothing!
@bw fully agree. Vena is a stain on UP and that is saying it when UP is what it is.. Vena has destroyed the culture more than I ever expected. I hope he rots
@gk you’re….. smh
Vena is the GOAT. your welcome for your lifetime guarantees yall just ratified
Venas protecting you guys and should kiss his feet. Unions look out for lazy people and you’ll only hear from them if you’re in trouble. Is north platte an “away” terminal yet?
Vena was the best thing that ever happened to the industry? If he's the best thing, then why wasn't he at those government hearings answering for why the industry was so bad? Every single problem at the UP for the last six or seven years can all be traced back to Vena. Those government hearings took place, Vena conveniently exited the company quickly just before the hearings, to go to Arizona and sit on the board for FedEx the last time I checked. Vena is in NO WAY good for the industry. The men and women of the UP are indeed fed up with him and many of them are looking somewhere else for work. Why hasn't the UP stock gone up, if he's so good for the industry? Vena touted a $400 stock price and not surprising that it hasn't gone anywhere near that! Why did Soroban sell all of their UP stock, even though they were the ones that got Fritz fired and him into the CEO spot? Vena also touted precision railroading, and REALLY not surprising at all that it's not! Like the OP said, the merger is idea is nothing more than to satisfy Venas' ego! He needs the merger to happen because his name has been constantly shrouded with layoffs and hardships for the workers. The job agreements he agreed to, I really think is a way for him to try to dig his name out of the negativity that follows it. Ask yourself this, WHERE DID BETH GO? Why did she suddenly depart from the company. What about the other executives that disappeared when Vena came onto the scene. What's the reason for their sudden departures? Venas' name will forever live in infamy for what he's done to the industry. I haven't seen much positive from him any other executive that said PSR is a good thing. Most of the executives that ran with PSR at the UP and other class 1's have either resigned or have been fired from their positions. Still think Vena was a good thing for the industry?
