I was dead set on staying here a few months ago, but I've changed my mind. Enough is enough. I want out, and I hope I can get out with severance as a nice safety net. What are the odds we'll be given a chance to volunteer before they start cutting folks left and right?

A Sr. Director on here complaining should quit and leave right now. What a loser.
I’m a Sr Director. If you asked me for a package, I’d do whatever I could to make it happen (assuming there were RIf conversations). Note HR would be informed, who knows what those mfers do with that info.
If no RIF conversations are planned, and you asked me, that would put me in an awkward position since I’d believe you were checked out and not working to your potential. Might turn into a PIP if you were caught coasting.
RIFS are coming.
I don’t think there will be any layoffs. Likely a hiring freeze with a window for attrition to happen before a RIF. IMHO.
When rumblings of the August 2023 RIF started to firm up a co-worker went to our VP and said he would volunteer to go if needed. He ended up with a severance package and didn’t look back.
He trusted the VP immensely, and they had a 20 year + relationship. That made the conversation easier.
I wouldn’t offer yourself up without that level of trust.
There is no chance. Leadership won't ask for volunteers and don't mention you want to be considered either because it brings no value by doing such a thing. Take the high road and keep your job. If you want out, start looking if you haven't already.
