Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Got an exceeds and only went into office 2x last year

Feel bad for those on team that went in 2-3x weekly and got meets 🤷‍♀️.

There is zero standard when it comes to these reviews. I got a meets mid year and exceeds in final. A co worker got exceeds in mid year and meets in end of year and didn’t get a valid justification around the why. Such a joke

No surprise. I get more done at home and no one bugs me by sticking their head over the wall.

It’s the. Jade model. You only get exceeds if they are going to promote you. Bonus pool is a set amount and the execs get most or all of it. Great for morale!

I am OC+2 and guess what, it is the SAME as low level. I am trying to understand who is actually behind the curtain in Oz. I took this job thinking I would be immune from a lot of the issues well folks 18 months in it is the SAME. SAME requirements, SAME push for RTO, SAME loser compensation and the best part SAME excuses.

I am at the conclusion that the only thing Chuckles has changed is the corruption and molale and not in a good way. I have been at the company 9 years and I have decided to not get to 10 years and they can keep the plastic cube if they even still give them out.

Sounds group dependent. I've been a 'first like manager' for years and have never once had a rating I assigned 'overruled' by the higher ups. I've had to add more justification than initially provided for a higher rating several times, but I've never changed one or had one changed for me. Comp on the other hand has been changed for me by the higher ups.

The performance review system is constantly changing, a moving target of vague corporate objectives and metrics that frustrates everyone.

Your manager, especially if lower level, spends most of their energy managing day-to-day workflow and maintaining a frictionless relationship with upper mgmt. Performance reviews are something to check the box to get on with it.

My best reviews happened when I:

  • >Had a friendly disposition
  • >Contributed in meetings (not dominating, be a smidge above introverted)
  • >Said NO. This speaks more positively about you than saying YES all the time
  • >Created time scarcity in calendar
  • >Did not accept all meeting requests
  • >Did not immediately respond to all emails and chats
  • >Realized the easiest accomplishments can matter more than volume or complexity
  • >Owned one thing (it doesn't have to be a big thing, just own something)

You see lifers toil away in obscurity. Yes it's honorable to keep your head down and work hard. No shame in having some pride there. Yet working at WF, they have no obligation to you to advance your career quickly. If you are ambitious, get in front of things by looking out for you first. Also try not to work at WF too long (2 years tops is enough).

Did anyone on the Risk team get an "exceeds" for letting the bank get fined billions again for lack of effective controls?

You deserved the exceeds now stop playing around like you’re not an all star.

Your boss most likely had no say in your rating. First-level managers often phrase things to make it sound like they did it - they think it makes them sound more in-control, even if the reality is that they're just serving as a mouthpiece for their manager.

If your boss hates you, they probably lost sleep knowing they'd have to tell you that you got exceeds.

The ratings system is shrouded in more mystery than most people realize. And honestly, that's a good thing. It keeps bad managers from doing too much damage.

My boss hates me -- literally hates me -- and gave me an exceeds at EOY. Go figure. I wonder if she's waiting to relish my whiplash when I'm abruptly laid off after getting glowing review (?) Lots of passive aggressive cr*p like that at WF.
