Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Secret Tracking System - They're Taking Notes About You

Upper management tracks notes about every individual, especially if the notes are about certain topics of interest at the time.

When you talk to your manager, they take notes about what you say. Even in other meetings besides your 1:1, they'll note what you say if it's about certain topics.

Your manager's manager occasionally asks about each individual and takes their own notes. The reason they're taking notes again is that lower level managers don't know about the secret tracking system. Turnover is too high at the lower level to rely on them to always keep it a secret.

All of your complaints, even if casual or joking, are logged. General notes about your productivity and engagement also go in there. This information is used for annual ratings, comp, and layoffs.

Be careful what you say, no matter the setting (office, Skype, etc.). Extend only minimal (if any) trust to your reporting chain.

Who among you will confirm the above?

This is the way it should be. I miss cutthroat competition.

@vew+1kTu7KJI- This is rife for abuse, by jealous, incompetent, petty people. Tons by that description at the bank.

I believe this story. It's a troublemaker list or a hit list. I've worked at WF. And I've worked at another company in which the internal audit department was used as a front; for employees to go treport misconduct with the company. The internal audit team then created a list of people that reported misconduct and sent that list to the executives, in which some of the executives themselves were doing misconduct such as embezzlement and se-ual harassment. That hit list was shared to target all the whistle-blowers and have rhem fired or tortured at work.

Never go to the HR, internal audit or whistle-blower ethics hotline. They are there to protect management who are proxies for the company. If you do you will be on a hit list.

When I worked for the firm back in 08, I was um... 'Dating' a tech guy. I was in Operations and had won many awards for customer service. I thought I had a golden reputation and said something to that effect and he was quiet in an awkward way. Then reluctantly told me about this system that higher management used to log comments on employees. He had looked me up and I had been completely torpedoed by an upper manager that I had previously reported up the chain to (who had targeted me and then I managed to switch departments)
He had already gone in and deleted everything for me. So I can tell you this is absolutely true and has been for a LOOONG time.

WF has a hard time assembling basic business data that is high quality and useful (trust me, I know- I’ve spent weeks on an effort to do so for something that could save the bank a lot of money)…there’s no way they have the capacity to do something like this. Sorry.

I believe this to be true. I really think this occurs. Nothing at Wells is private.

Lol

I’m still waiting for the tracking system to even be able to effective DO my job. Was supposed to be done already and it’s not even close. But oh well.

Short of logging every keystroke, everything you do on WF hardware is logged. The only thing keeping corporate from actively spying on you are the scattered nature of the logs. Event logs, Symantec, tanium, etc. All local. That will change as Symphony begins distribution. Its agent reports all that information to a central web based GUI. No more plausible deniability.

hopefully the tracking system is in Workday because then it's sure to be impossible to navigate and won't work properly.

If this was happening, it would likely be just notes limited to a smaller group or set of teams

Dude, WF can't do the most simplest things and you are telling me they are taking accurate notes on us? You really need to find a fufilling hobby bud.

Jesus fu-k this is the d-mbest thing I've ever read here. Most of the managers are not competent enough to do their jobs, let alone take detailed notes about every interaction with their direct reports.

I seriously doubt my manager is bright enough to take meaningful notes over extended period of time, documenting the 12 times we meet a year... tech.

of course they track you and all IM conversations and emails are retained by the company and admissible in court as needed. wouldn't surprise me if at some point they have AI analyzing our calls in teams real time and flagging for certain scenarios

They can’t even get RTO right or avoid regulatory fines, and now Wells Fargo has a magical tracking system? Is that tinfoil hat you have on approved by management or did you get an HR exception as the office gaslighter?🥴

Not sure about this whole “system” - but people definitely talk about each other - we are humans. Perception counts more than reality.

Apparently you haven't been in the working world very long. Managers do this all the time in all industries.

There’s nothing new or wrong with this. All managers do this to some degree - concerns are documented to demonstrate patterns. Positive and successful actions are also tracked for patterns. Any good manager does this.
