Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Google Severance > Oracle Severance

Alphabet said it would offer U.S.-based employees two months notice, plus 16 weeks of severance pay, along with two additional weeks for each year an employee being laid off from the nearly 25-year-old company has worked there.

The company will also offer former employees access to resources to help them with their immigration status, job placement and mental health, the spokesman said.

As always, Oracle is the odd one out.

Believe Oracle comparatively is two weeks (pro-rated in first year) with an extra week for each additional year (also pro-rated).

So if you have 5 years at Oracle, that'd be 6 weeks pay. 5 years at Google would be 26 weeks pay, comparatively.

In this economy, particularly, with tech, I'd estimate it'll take someone 4-6 months to get a "bridge" job after a layoff, with a likely pay cut and/or downgrade in responsibility.

So... put off those extra expenses and start saving.

Very nice except I don't work at Oracle. Seems you do though. Maybe you should go over to Google to make sure you get the severance package you think you deserve.

It's a reminder of how little Oracle cares about laying people off.

Google is happy to shepherd its workers through this tough time. Oracle is happy to dump you on the street.

It's indefensible, but here you are, licking Larry's boots.

Google Severance > Oracle Severance

So what? Or if you prefer, go get yourself a job at Google and get laid off while you are there if Oracle's severance bothers you so much.
