Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs on or before Feb 10 2023

It’s coming. Sales, Sales leadership and marketing to be cut in all segments by 15%. Spoken right from a level 5 VP.

This reminds me of the giant layoffs back in 2020. I recall that back then, Stink claimed the goal was to reduce levels to help make things more streamlined and efficient, as well as address the problem of T being so top-heavy with irrelevant and redundant high-salary execs.

Of course, the punchline was that the layoffs hit L1 and 2, with maybe a token L3 & 4 here and there.

The levels, the irrelevant and the redundant execs? Yeah, they're still around. But all you L1 and L2 guys, get ready to be eliminated.

They could eliminate 90% of consumer and business marketing and it would make no difference to the business going forward. Zero. Ditto stratgic planning, public relations and external affairs. Grotesquely bloated bullsh-t factories.

I have not heard this, and I have good connections with Sales. I have a hard time believing they will take a 15% haircut across the board. Can we be more specific? Is this National Business? Global? MOW?

They can start with eliminating all stand alone pricing functions.

Techs with overtime are making between $115k - $175k per year! They're really making a lot of money when it's available to do so! Gotta love this company!

The company has no idea what hey have. This will be a very slow process if they are to do it correctly. There are a lot of VPs who bs to make sure they are able to hold onto what they have. If they are to undo the redundancy with any accuracy, it will require lower level folks to be involved in the process.
It’s T, so more than likely they will just eliminate a bunch of jobs and then realize they made a mistake.
As people are forced out, employees who are left will not be that fortunate either. More work, more hours for the same salary.
I also heard the company will be contracting more work out that is currently handled by Techs. Why pay a 100k for a job someone will do for
35-40k.

There is no leadership at this company, so how do you calculate 15% of zero?

Yep, I heard the same. They will slowly eliminate redundant managerial marketing and sales positions, including VPs.

Whether this is accurate or not, make no mistake, the layoffs will continue with predictable regularity. I would think 15% at one time is a bit steep, but 10% is the acceptable norm. Then again in March, June, Sept and December. Then is starts all over. This should surprise absolutely no one.
