Thread regarding IBM layoffs

“The President’s vision here is to bring in overseas workers who have the skills for three, five, or seven years to train US workers. Then they can go home, and U.S. workers will fully take over,” Bessent said.

Poetic justice for all the Americans forced to train their Indian replacements before being sent to the unemployment line.

Trump thinks he is the only smart person in the USA and everyone else is a dum--ss. He's perfectly happy bringing in hired talent.

If you think he cares about you or your employment - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

", it’s about addressing skill gaps in sectors like semiconductor manufacturing and shipbuilding, fields that have been offshored for decades. "

Yeah, this ain't software or even high-tech skills. They're jobs that haven't existed in the US for quite a long time. Battery manufacturing too.

We'll see how true it winds up being. I don't know how you'd enforce

The thing is, US workers don't want to work for corporations anymore. It's not a skilled based issue. The entire corporate structure has become one nasty frat house and the smart Americans aren't willing to play their game any longer.

Won't work for marketing. IBM creates marketing materials in US English. Most Indian citizens are not native English speakers. So to think someone who learned English as a second language will "teach" US creators how to market in US English is ludicrous. Just like it was when they brought over Indian workers to create materials in the US. Code is mostly code (though of course some coders are much more talented than others), but English has too many nuances that a non-native speaker will never understand, much less teach. An Indian writer replaced me but IBM no longer cares about the quality of their marketing materials. So for Alvind and the Chipmunks it's just a numbers game: Indian writers cost less. Not like in the 60's-80's when IBM was a thought leader in marketing. Oh well...anything that enlarges the CEO's bonus and ego I guess. Still job searching.
