Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Strike or maybe Unionized

Strike or Unionized

U.S. employees are being displaced with offshore workers and/or artificial intelligence. It’s UnAmerican and unconscionable.

Perhaps the only way this can be stopped is if US employees (not in leadership roles) unite and demand changes immediately.

And maybe it is time for Healthcare workers to become unionized.

@1b8 Go read some articles about unions at Amazon. Go read some articles about wages in factories with unions versus those without. Go read some articles on the gains unions have made for all employees in terms of safety, holidays, etc.

Or better still, go take a course on labor law or employment law.

The research is there from reputable sources.

@b7 yes please, like I would love what I do if it didn't feel like Humana had such a profit focused agenda.

@kx Unions worked well for Detroit auto workers. Unions helped employees better wages, better bargaining power, better ability to negotiate when someone was on a disciplinary action, pensions, good medical care, etc.

Why do you think employers fight so hard against unions? It’s not because they care about workers. It’s because unions give workers negotiating power through collective bargaining works.

Employers don’t want you to have that kind of bargaining chip. It messes up their game.

Unions drive up prices that are passed on to consumers so that’s going to be a NO. Ask Detroit how unions worked out for them.

Unions jobs will be replaced by AI …. And that will negate any collective bargaining leverage.

I’ve been saying this for years. The only way to negotiate better pay, benefits, and employment terms is through collective bargaining. That means joining a union.

A union won’t necessarily be able to stop offshoring—but it can negotiate terms with severance and possibly what conditions would need to happen before the company looks at offshoring. That’s power you can’t get without collective bargaining.

Workers have more of a say when they’re organized and negotiating. And that’s exactly why our top leaders don’t want unions.
