Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

There's a LOT of stuff suddenly on pause, in MANY departments.

Necessary follow-up emails are even being halted. Critical meetings - on hold. I've talked to several friends across the company, various departments and the sentiment is the same - uncertainty and "waiting to hear if we have jobs."

It's not healthy and makes me wonder Dan's long term "culture" strategy that he claims is a priority, when the short term has gone south so quickly.

I genuinely thought the environment couldn't get worse than what H created, but it def has, in a quick way :-/

The whole situation is a massive distraction… people are putting their time and energy trying to work out who will go and who will stay, and why.

You can’t blame people for speculating or wondering whether it’s better to go or stay and the wait to find out just fuels the fire

Dan needs the best of the best management to pull off this whole "restructuring". Unfortunately, so much talent have left and those who remain are wanting to go or are stuck in a pool with mediocre employees. Verizon needs to get creative by keeping their talent maybe even part time or hired as contractors. HR doesn't care who leaves, just get rid of people which is what they have always done. With the cr-ppy management rating system, only a few are rated as "leaders" and the rest are in a pool of "performers" where you have the rest of the leaders all the way down to the slackers and totally ineffective. So laying off by rating is totally out of the question. Manager's don't know what their people are doing because their span of control is so huge now. It's very unfortunate where we are at this point.

@a6 this is incredibly true. I see a reckoning coming for the last of discipline in this company.

Agreed, we stopped being “VBG” and moved to “VB” years ago

@A5, that's not accurate. Many Verizon Business pre scheduled meetings and events have been paused or cancelled. And I'm not talking about extracurricular moments, I'm talking about the business we do. Perhaps in your department they haven't, but that's not indicative of the general landscape.

Also, @A5, we haven't used the VBG nomenclature for several years...

The reason a lot is on pause is because leaders who had been able to pass through a bunch of d-mb stuff are now having to go back and vette it through Dan. You could say that it is to see if it aligns with the new strategy/vision, but it's really about leaders getting caught pushing their low value work to fluff their PAD.

This is BS. All planning and current activities are moving forward across our teams in VBG. Kickoffs are still happening. What does it even mean “follow-up emails are even being halted”? That doesn’t make sense. Everyday business continues as we wait to hear more info from Dan. In the meantime… Control what you can control, people.

Happens every November when they claw back funding in Q4... nothing new.

Dan has no plans but 2 layoff, hire more Indians then outsource.

He will then blame ai. After the layoffs he will see a temp stock price bump, then he will leave before turning it over to sampath for complete destruction.

Verizon stock is as low as it ever been even after 50k iob cuts few years. The Indians running the company have no idea but to hire more Indians

@OP His approach, just throw it all out there sure did store up a hornets nest of anxiety. He has been in the business a long time. Makes you wonder why he intentionally did that. He knows better. That was by design!
