Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Got Laid off today -

It’s starting. Layoffs until Thanksgiving.
I was told I have to work through the whole month of November to receive severance. This place sux! Totally blindsided. Wish us all good luck!

Guys, get out. BNY SU-KS, it’s not a real company lol. I’ve been at my job for two years now- the difference in just first few days there was jarring. There are companies out there that will start you off at 65K. You don’t have to work 900 years to get there and other places will also trust you to do your job and not micromanage you. If you get laid off, this can only mean good things for you. This is not the same place it was 10 years ago. It’s not real. All of the work is offshored, I’d spend all day answering offshore people’s questions. Let them burn. Their fines will be up the a**

@hq. It is brillant on BNYs part to have people on payroll with system access. I think not.

Yes, about 9 months and also yes on severance.

Long termer that kept my nose clean and didn't create too many enemies.

@hq I got laid off in Feb with a March termination date. Some ppl in my group had to continue to work for the final 30 days while others did not.

Personally know several VPs that were “retired” and were given 30 day notice. All of them worked their 30 days then said goodbye.

@hq It’s not. Some employees get pre-notified.

This seems like a load of bs. BNY isn’t going to give you a months notice that you’re getting canned so you can go and pretend to work and delete things.

@f1 when you say a while do you mean months and did you get severance?

@ak How did you go about "legally challenging" it?

@e0

Yes, put it out to manager and anyone else that would listen.
Took a while but I guess they finally needed to get rid of someone and I was willing.

@da you volunteered? Can you share how you went about it, did you bring it up to your manger? Thinking of going the same route.

Be prepared for a mess at tax time. You’ve all worked almost the full year and then will receive a lump sum payout right before year end. This amount (especially if you’ve been there a long time) will make it look like your income is way higher than usual.

Me too, but I volunteered. Understand there will be at least a few in Oriskany.

Anyone laid off from Oriskany WFH?

Robin’s Goblins are at it again doing their Halloween soul suc-king. We hear a lot of happy talk and wishful chatter from the Slim Reaper. He offers up a free token of kindness during the holiday recharge period and a few other unwanted bones that don’t cost the business a dime. But losing a job is no laughing matter. It represents years of hard work and sacrifice while you’ve poured your heart and soul into helping the company, your team and your community thrive.

We wish you all the best as you process this news and reorient your thoughts. Remember, after every storm the sun shines! Be well.

@OP that’s interesting. Sorry happened to you but not surprised. They let me go this year too but did not require me to work any longer. They offered me 3 months severance which didn’t work given how long I was there so I legally challenged them and won. Process took less than 2 months and they paid me for a year. It seems like is getting worse at BNY looking at this site. To those who are still working there, I wish you all prosperity and success. A once good company took a bad turn under new leadership. I am not venting or disgruntled personally but I am trying to share that you can successfully challenge them. Their attorneys not very competent. Whomever you hire is better.

I’m so sorry you were laid off but thank your lucky stars you got severance. The vast majority will not. And, bonus, you got out of this place. Go forth and conquer. And never look back.

Request a copy of your employee records ( # years of your performance reviews, etc) from HR. Make a copy of this email request - showing date of request).

By BNY policy and state law you are allowed to get your records - only as an employee. Once terminated, BNY is not required to provide these to you.

Sorry to hear this bad event for you. But, if you got laid off today, how can they expect you to work another month? Were you simply notified today that your last day is 11/30? And even if that’s the case, what good would you really be? They are mo--ns but asking to rely on you when you are half out the door is insane. Please explain if you feel up to it
