Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Last chance to change RTO before the point of no return

I’ve been here just over 10 years since graduating college, and in that time I’ve seen it all. The broken promises, the bad decisions, and the constant spin from leadership. Through it all, I stayed because I truly like my job, the work I do, and the people I work with. I take pride in what I do and I’m good at it.

But this five-day RTO has crossed the line. If it doesn’t change before next year, I’ll be gone. And I’m not alone. So many of us who’ve stuck through every mess and every round of “transformation” are already looking elsewhere. It makes no sense to stay when other companies offer better pay, better benefits, and the flexibility we need to actually live our lives.

It’s time to face reality. The experienced people are leaving, the older generation is retiring, and the younger workforce won’t tolerate this outdated model. Keep pushing this policy and you’ll be left with empty offices and a hollow company.

RTO needs to be rolled back before it’s too late. The message is clear, even if leadership refuses to hear it.

"I will be leaving after Dec 31."

Remember, you are not required to give the company any notice when you leave. Just turn in your company equipment and badge, and leave.

“ Crazy the amount hours we worked for sooo many years, to be audited now for every minute I am sitting and working alone in crowded, noisy, filthy office, while in Teams mtgs all day long, and after 2 hrs stupid commute, and to know that ATT just want me to leave .. yes, we have been fools.”

And this is the most frustrating thing of all. I’m expected to be available and work 24/7/365 in my group. We often have to work issues early morning, late nights, weekends, holidays. I’ve had to work on vacations, I’ve had to miss so many family things or trips (these things always seem to happen when I’m going somewhere) because of some issue. I’m always there to jump in with the fire hose. Then, to get monitored and questioned on my broken presence report that under reports my hours in the office. It’s just a slap in the face. I will be leaving after Dec 31. I want to make sure I get what little bonus I will be eligible for. They can have it. I’ll figure out some other career.

I am staying here til Dec 31st to be qualified for my bonus, take all my vacations by Jan, Feb and resign by March, after the bonus. I am NOT sustaining another year of 5 day RTO. They can F…u-K OFF!

@as you are right, having laptops and working with offshore contractors, totally change the 9-5.
We (still do) work really early in the morning and very late at night helping offshore developers and support with deployments, and then weekends doing our own work. Then checking and answering email and questions during vacations and holidays.
Crazy the amount hours we worked for sooo many years, to be audited now for every minute I am sitting and working alone in crowded, noisy, filthy office, while in Teams mtgs all day long, and after 2 hrs stupid commute, and to know that ATT just want me to leave .. yes, we have been fools.

Why are some orgs so special that they are still 3 days.. that clearly shows this did not work. Everyone knows that its layoffs disguised as rto. If they really wanted to lay people off they have two options that could have been executed well.

Get your bottom 10 out or dangle a carrot for people close to retirement to get out. Either one would have got them the numbers.. but no.. the smart alecks decided rto.. go figure

They have started COBC firing people for RTO. There is probably no turning back now. Only new hires will be considered for Virtual status going forward.

Att wants us all to leave and without a layoff.
Why is so hard hall to understand that our jobs have already a replacement in international cheaper hubs ( Eastern Europe, India, Israel, Mexico ) ??? We are done !! We are goners.
This has being going on before Covid, but Covid stopped it for a while, now the “program” is accelerating.
This is not about AI, this is about cheaper humans replacing you.

“I feel like I’ve been taken advantage of working at home, only to find out later when I return the office, I was working much harder than necessary.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.”

I also dooes feel said shaming of the fool. I was fool but now I can see RTO purpose to be close to my fellow countrymen. Bangalore 2 is on rise in Texas. We can now take Alamo!!!!!!

The higher the resistance to RTO, the higher the evel of freeloading. The correlation is pretty obvious.

"Work as prescribed 9-5 M-F. Been done for over a century. Covid is over. Office is for collaboration and a place dedicated for work."

You are completely wrong. The 9-5 Office job ended about 25 years ago. I was hired in the late 1990s as hybrid once laptops became reasonably priced. Until 2024 I was in the office no more than 3 days a week. There were several stretches during my ATT career that I did not come into the office for years (roughly 10 in total) becuase my client was world wide and my team and/or boss was not co-located in my city.

Further, this collaboration you talk about is BS also. The sent us back to offices but do not guarantee that we will be sitting next to or team mates, or the folks I support. My "clients' are all over the world so the only way to "collaborate" with them is by Teams meeting. So, another BS claim by you, and the C-Suite.

But you keep kissing A$$ because you obviously get paid to eat the nuts out of Stank's sh!t.

All the old cronies who think WFH is for being lazy and doing whatever you want are telling on themselves. We get that you would act like a POS with that freedom, but the world has changed and some of us have discipline and can manage to do work without being in a gray, adult daycare.

OP next office gig will be a Starbucks barista, serving coffee to all RTO boomers

I have worked at home since 2007. What I’m finding by returning to the office is I work too hard. So now I walk around the beautiful T campus, grab a bite to eat in the cafeteria, surf the net and check social media. It’s like have a mental health day during the week.
I feel like I’ve been taken advantage of working at home, only to find out later when I return the office, I was working much harder than necessary.

@a8 what about the 10 years before Covid that we all worked remotely? What was that called? And by the way. 75% of companies still operate in a WFH or Hybrid model. You sound like a boomer. Probably time for you to hang it up, old man.

The problem is Stankey. The strict 5 day RTO is all his doing.

He needs to go. Now

Why do people think WFH means goofing off? I worked from home for many years and I was busy working 8+ hrs every day! Look, if someone is going to goof off at home, they are going to goof off in the office. Just because they are sitting in an ATT building does not mean they are working.

@a8

So you advocate to roll it all back to 1925? All aspects of work and society at large, right back to that point? Or just commuting to an office?

That'd be an odd hill to fight for (unless perhaps you are a wealthy commercial real estate investor) but you do you.

Work as prescribed 9-5 M-F. Been done for over a century. Covid is over. Office is for collaboration and a place dedicated for work. Home office is for goofing off, plaofficial. Your babies and preK kids, pets, and T times when everyone else is officing.
Good luck finding another position these days that allows this that aren't cutting positions.

This is exactly what they don’t understand.
They are already bleeding and they will keep bleeding.
They are losing more 0-3 YOE employees than tenured and they have no idea.
