Do Managing Directors make more than Executive Directors?

What’s the big deal and why is everyone on my team obsessed with being one?

Like everything it touches, this swamp of a company has sc--wed up the titles. When Directors are first-line managers (real Directors, not the bs corporate title Executive Directors who can be IC's or managers) , they have to stratify somehow. Thus these paragons of corporate leadership came up with "Managing Directors" who make a little more money for a lot more responsibility and hassle.

Becoming an MD used to be a huge career accomplishment worthy of getting your name publicized in the Wall Street Journal. A lot of the prestige is left over from those times

In theory, yes, this would be true, as a managing director is higher than an executive director in terms of officer titles. But you could easily have a high paid exec director making more than a lower paid managing director.
