Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How many people have actually been laid off this year?

Not just in the last round, but since January?

apparently nobody knows.
I got hard numbers since Aug14 and some estimates since Aug01 and nothing prior:

  • oct01-now: 1027 layoffs, 1112 additions (based on Slack regular tracking, layoffs reporting is delayed by weeks, as non-IDC and non-NA regions disconnect people from Slack with very long delay)
  • sep02-sep30: 6275 layoffs, 861 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • aug14-sep01: 733 layoffs (based on Slack very few data points)
  • aug01-aug14: ?2900 layoffs in IDC (based on media reports)

More layoffs to come after Mos-to-Fusion project goes live. AI will be the one taking your MOS SRs. AI is already being trained to solve SRs instead of Support Engineers. If the layoffs follow a pattern, there will be another major one before the Thanksgiving holiday here in the states.

Has Oracle gone through such enormous number of layoffs before? Or this is the first time with such dramatic change?
