@1x...yes. bp share price less than half of what it was 20 years ago, while competitors have gone up. bp has shed nearly 150 billion in market cap in 20 years...capital destruction machine.

Share prices are not directly comparable. Share price GROWTH is. The raw share price is not indicative of value.

@zq It is a very bad investment, but quite a few bigwigs elevated their career with M&S, so doubtful there will be any consequence. Just look at how they spin it as an "achievement" in all the communications...

UK might be cheaper labor for back office and general engineering but the bench strength is terrible for experience in how we actually make money (O&G exploration and production). Moving staffing out deep experienced pools like Houston will save a few % on L&O but that’s not where our real cost is.

One inexperienced “mistake” like M&S carries more cost than the entire US Wells payroll. Trying to save 30% on labor by prioritizing UK over US (when the UK also has less work hours a year) is penny wise but pound foolish.

the UK is a low cost centre these days, esp. compared to Houston

@hb not much cost advantage from G+ at this point… plus you need about 3 there to do the equivalent work of a UK G

I probably don't realise how many jobs are going to india. How many? from what I have heard there's not so much a cost advantage from level F+.
