Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I am a salary employee that puts in well over 40 hrs a week

And my manager is trying to intimidate me using the presence report. What can I do or say to get them off my back?

Everyone's most important goal right now is RTO. Work and productivity are in the back seat. As soon as you understand that, you'll do your 8 and skate and you'll be a top performer.

It sounds like you have not worked here long enough to know, you have to play the game. Right now, that game is RTO. You have to be in the office 8 hrs every day. They don’t care if you work Extra hours at home, as long as you RTO as directed. It doesn’t matter if it’s right, wrong or just plain stupid. In this company, to keep your job, you need to be a sheep and just follow the rules, no matter how insane they sometimes are. Sad but true.

You are doing yourself a disservice by putting in more that 40 hours per week. Record everything down to the minute. Record your bathroom breaks if you have to. Be diligent. If your manage harasses you, then show them you reports. If they continue to harass you, go to their supervisor and meet with them to talk about the issue. Let their boss handle your boss. They have criteria they are required to follow. If they are not following the criteria to the letter, then they either need a refresher or extra education on the criteria.

demonstrate to them that you spend 8 hours each day in the office.
you do this by recording your logon time, and your logoff time each day.
you may not spend 6 hours in the office one day, and 10 the next, without notifying your manager.

Actually look at your presence report frequently so you have a chance of remembering, 'oh right, it says 3 hours today because i was in a meeting 5 hours and my computer went to sleep' then you work to make sure your computer stays online all day since that is how we are being evaluated.

You no longer get to turn the computer on first thing in the morning at home, reply to one email, get the kids ready for school, drive to work, and consider all of that 'work time'.

Give them what they want and NOT a Second more. If all they Value is your Badge in and your 40 hours in Office, then give them ONLY that. To H3LL with going Above and Beyond.

@OP As a recently retired manager...If you are expected to come to the office 5 days, 8 hours a day, the presence report shouldn't matter. You need to stay on top of it as it could be wrong, so hopefully you are badging in & out. I would recommend that you don't work over 40 hours, and that includes answering calls past your time in the office. Pretty soon, your manager will figure out that micromanaging you with the presence report isn't worth it. Reality is, if you don't want to come in 5x8, you should be looking for a different employer.
