Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Opt-in thread

With opt-in for RTO Phase 1 due Monday, we could use a thread to focus that chatter this upcoming week.

Are you opting in to the severance?
What made your decision easy or hard?
Have you told your manager and coworkers?
Any indication yet whether you’re out 10/31 or staying on longer?

opted for leave but my manager’s manager said that October 31 may not be the end date because we have Q4 commitments. Does anyone have their end date in writing yet? or know when that will be official? can’t plan anything this su-ks.

@fg "They don't check". Those were the magic words I was looking for. Thanks! And you're right we don't owe these sc-mbag sleaze-ba--s anything.

@en you say nothing. You do nothing. Take your money look for a job and say nothing. They don’t check.

Corporate America owe you nothing. Don’t let them play you after playing with your life.

@en I believe it depends on WHEN during your severance you get a job. There is an offset policy section in the agreement. The first few weeks you should be able to still collect but the back end gets more complicated - with paramount providing a prorated severance based on your new salary.

Any word on if there's a clause in the severance agreement of what happens if those that opt-in get a job while on severance? Do severance payments stop?

@dv I could be wrong but I think the person is essentially saying the time between today when you would opt in through your end date, 10/31 is the "additional 7 weeks" since you "won't be doing much" during that time

@dt where is the additional 7 weeks coming from? First I hear of that.

I am leaning towards leaving but still has worries over whether I can find another job. The severance is actually 7 weeks plus whatever they tell you. Nobody will be expecting you to do much between now and 10/31 if you opt in.

I opted in. I'm very fortunate to have some job opportunities ahead of me (given the fact that the job market is a nightmare right now), and I can take a little time to regroup. This isn't the same company for which I was proud to work when I started many years ago, so it isn't painful to leave it behind. I'm just ready to wash my hands of it.

10/31 is last day. Very rare cases will you be granted an extension through the end of the year. This all about writing off the severance/merger related costs this quarter.

I did opt in but all I got so far was the confirmation screen saying more info to come in Oct.

FAQ doc said 10/31 unless they need you longer for transition. not sure how they will determine that but probably depends on how many in your dept opt in.

I wouldn’t want employees with one foot out the door around if I’m the manager.

@OP All the opt in’s I’ve heard from have been given a separation date of 10/31. Curious if they’ll drag out the layoffs until closer to the earnings call or will they start this week knowing who is left.
