10+ years with the company , Every single year performance feedback at 4 or 5 , praised by manager in every 1:1 for the initiatives and work done . Manager acted as a good friend all throughout , sharing even family events etc . , 2 weeks ago calls on my mobile and in a cold voice reads a 2 minute script to say ‘ your position has been eliminated’ .

what are the criteria for firing employees here ?
The criteria?!
The criteria is the more firings, the better. HTH!
Thankfully i was able to get an offer today. Hope everyone who has been affected by layoffs lands something sooner than later.
Please keep hatred away and focus on what’s important for you and your family.
Looking at some of the comments added here in last few days , I think some have made assumption that I am Indian . For records , I am not . Again , please keep hatred away, and focus on what’s important for you.
This comment board has become a real circus. How about everyone give it rest already?
Bottom line - No one is safe at Oracle. If you think you’re protected from a RIF for any reason, whether it be because you’re in good with your manager, you’re so good looking, or even if you think you’re just too wonderful, then you ARE a fool.
“ Get a life. “
Physician, heal thyself.
If only modern Americans had the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of their founding fathers.
To all those defending the OP and making insulting comments to Oracle employees who are US citizens - Why the kerfuffle? People here have CORRECTLY pointed out the obvious disparity of Oracle RIFs over visa holders and US citizens, and then you all get into a childish little snit over this.
So to OP and his merry band of little boy "athletic supporters" - Get a life.
@3kof+1k4p1jwr Trump lost, and so did his parade of losers!
Oracle is an Indian company in America
Oracle should be sued for keeping legions of visa holders while rifting truckloads of US citizens
OP GTFO America, Period.
You have nothing to do here
While thousands of US citizens are being rifted OP is acting as a martyr since he is a rare exception of being deported among visa holders.
H1Bs should be on the priority list to get deported
- @Netflix did not ki-l blockbuster. Ridiculous late fees did.
@Uber did not ki-l taxi business. Limited access and fare control did.
@Amazon did not ki-l other retailers. Poor customer service did.
Not being customer-centric is the biggest threat to any business. You are a business and your employer is your customer . Hope you get the analogy.
“ folks , some of you haven’t boarded the bus from 1900s . this is 2022 , people travel across borders and work in other countries around the world . You like it or not , if you can’t compete and work with people around the world, you are not fit for a corporate job today. This is not limited to O . You will have to face global competition any company you go to . Suck it up !!!”
This is the reality . Period.
@3lpf+1k4p1jwr so anytime you can't logically answer a question , just say the other person is an HR plant. Great idea !!
When you are part of Global companies , you will be required to work with people from different parts of the world . It is that simple !!
If you think otherwise , know that you are in denial of the reality !!
“Suck it up” - Ooh, sounds like either an HR plant or one of those lifelong Oracle guys that do other other than defending anything and everything that Oracle does, including RIFs. We have all encountered guys like this at Oracle, basically saying “Get with the program, boy”.
Oracle should be sued for its keeping so many H1Bs while at the same time RIFing Americans. If anyone thinks this has not been happening, then you’re in denial.
seriously people? Are you so naive that you can’t understand the OP here is a victim of O’s RIF process just like you ?
If anything, this instance should tell you that to O , ( or any other company) your nationality or color doesn’t matter ; as long as you cost them money , you are in the list to be chopped .
“ OP, this is America, you are on an alien;”
Oracle board, or layoff board … this comment is simply wrong!
folks , some of you haven’t boarded the bus from 1900s . this is 2022 , people travel across borders and work in other countries around the world . You like it or not , if you can’t compete and work with people around the world, you are not fit for a corporate job today. This is not limited to O . OP won’t be missed
@3nmu+1k4p1jwr - Here's a tip: This is a LAYOFF board, not an Oracle board! Anyone can voice their opinion about anything involving Oracle and layoffs. So lighten up on your friggin' condescending remarks about Americans.
The bottom line is that the majority of Oracle employees by a very wide margin are in the US, and the majority of Oracle layoffs over the past 20+ years have impacted US employees. So it should come as no surprise that there are a lot of US employees commenting here about the ridiculously unfair way that Oracle targets US employees over green card holders and H1Bs. That's the key point of many of these comments.
The RIF'ing of 20 Oracle employees in Ireland, while still unfortunate, pales in a huge way when compared to the thousands RIF'd by Oracle in the US since 2000.
This board is for Oracle, not America! The world is much broader and exciting than your limited isolationist perspective. Try to stay up while the world is passing you by.
OP, this is America, you are on an alien; now the exit is this way…
Visa holders employees should be laid off FIRST!!!
OP is never ever coming back to this thread . LMAO!!!
Merry Christmas from LE !!
OP - This is truly choice! Here you are as a visa holder, and you're complaining and sobbing over being RIFd when literally truckloads of American citizens have been and are still being RIFd by your beloved Oracle. Sounds like you think it's unfair that you got canned, but do you think that the Americans that also have been canned were deserving of it somehow?
If you believe in equal opportunity employment, then you should also believe in equal opportunity layoffs. While I certainly sympathize that you lost your job, you need to understand why there are American citizen posters here who have lost their jobs (or seen colleagues lose theirs) and don't like the clear favoritism we're all seeing with Oracle preferentially retaining visa holders at the expense of American citizens.
is there any data on the Visa holders vs USCitizen ratio in RIF ? This could be huge and a potential law suite on O
LOL
Oh sure, we all know that RIFs are ALWAYS equally spread out by Oracle across visa holders and US citizens, so that no one group ever gets favored. And pigs fly too. I'll have forward your comments to a good friend of mine who just got whacked after 15 years of employment with consistently top quality annual reviews, while a couple of far less qualified H1Bs on his team were of course kept on at their own high salaries. But this could never possibly happen, could it?
Thank you OP, for setting all of us self-centered, ignorant US citizens straight. We appreciate your insight, and of course, your concern for our welfare besides your own. Now off you go.
OP: good riddance!
I am the OP , i am visa holder myself . Please do not reduce this to a discussion on color / race etc. . The issue is bigger than that .
“ same guys will down-vote this comment as well. “
Sure!
You gotta love those who give the down-votes for literally any post that brings up the issue of green card holders and H1Bs being retained while Oracle keeps dumping US citizens. I bet these down-voters are either greens or H1Bs themselves, or otherwise just some Oracle employees who have their heads in the sand.
And I'm sure these same guys will down-vote this comment as well.
I really doubt the call. I heard in Recent days layoffs must go with zoom
a lot of you here seem to equate a worker visa with cheap labor . This actually is not true . salary for workers on visa are regulated strictly by the department of labor . Each time a visa is approved , DOL has processes to make sure that resource is paid atleast the median market salary for the city the employee is in . I am saying this from personal experience of going through this process for some of my team members.
“Absolute preference to bring on and retain Indians, while RIFing US citizens.”
In our group of 9, three were let go, all of whom were US citizens, leaving 2 out of the remaining six as US citizens. Watch what happens in January
If they don't need you anymore, they don't need you anymore. Your past ratings don't matter. And it's not just at O where this happens. Chances are you boss, who probably did appreciate you, was told by higher ups that there is going to be a RIF and here is the list and what you are supposed to tell the axed employees (I saw this at HP 20 years ago).. Sure, the deadwood will be let go first, but sometimes it's not enough.
Easy criteria - If you’re an Indian green card holder or H1B, and especially if you’re manager is of Indian decent, you more likely stay. Otherwise, you’re on the chopping block list.
I’m sure there be those who will dispute this or choose to condemn my comment, but this is the way it is at Oracle. Absolute preference to bring on and retain Indians, while RIFing US citizens.
The only obvious characteristic of those who can be let go is that they must be employees!
Right now being riffed is a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The product our team was building parts for lost to another product in Oracle and was put in maintenance mode which meant a massive rif in our area. (Oracle has a perverse history of letting multiple teams build competing products then picking a winner which is often not the best product, but the most politically connected.) The irony was, the teams working on the product my team was working on that had the most stable parts were deemed completed so they were eliminated while the areas of chaos stayed more intact so, optimistically, they could finish cleaning up their mess. Ergo, most of the best Kubernetes developers (of which I was not one) were let go.
No criteria whatsoever. Just point and click!
