10+ years with the company , Every single year performance feedback at 4 or 5 , praised by manager in every 1:1 for the initiatives and work done . Manager acted as a good friend all throughout , sharing even family events etc . , 2 weeks ago calls on my mobile and in a cold voice reads a 2 minute script to say ‘ your position has been eliminated’ .

I, too, was RIF'ed a few years ago, and while my salary is smaller, I am much happier. My manager at Oracle was nice enough, but there was nothing he could do. The funny thing was (sarcasm here), they expected me to consult AFTER my RIF. I gave them the $150 consultant rate and they stopped calling me. If they had kept me on, I would have been doing my job for a lot less than the consulting rate!
Hang in there, OP, and search. Good luck!
"If you got the "your position has been eliminated", then it's a RIF and not a firing for cause. Which means that going with the RIF approach Oracle does not have to provide any real specific justification for termination, which they would have to do with actual firings. But regardless, it's heartless and cruel, but unfortunately it's the Oracle way.
Best wishes on your job search. I was RIF'd by Oracle a number of years ago, with the same "your position has been eliminated" BS mantra. It took me a number of months to land a new job, but the company and the new job were far superior to what I had at Oracle, and my salary was higher. You will find a better job, I guarantee it."
In Canada they do not have penny coins.
A penny saved is a penny earned
When it comes to discrimination, LE said:
“Money doesn’t have any colour, it doesn’t matter when the savings are coming from “
LE said “a dollar saved is a dollar gained”
Criteria is the bottom line at any public company. Oracle just does this stuff in a manner as cold and calculating as math itself. After all, the CEO is an accountant. It was traumatic for your manager, you can count on that. They are also victimized by the inability to be more human and less like a robot.
There are only a few folks who have mastered the art of survival. Show servitude towards the SVP in your org and they will make sure your name does not show up on a layoff list is the only fool proof mantra. Not everyone can sell their soul.
It is literally just business, which is why you should never be so personal with your management.

In the long run, it really doesn’t matter how and when.
I suggest keep it cordial with your boss and it’s possible he didn’t know how to handle the message also. This is corporate life and grass is not greener on the other side.
Focus on your finances and job search. I wish you best
You've heard the phrase "it's not personal." It isn't. To Oracle you are nothing more than an expense on its balance sheet.
Use this layoff to understand the distinction between family and friends and your coworkers/managers. It's a hard lesson that everyone eventually learns. (Both my spouse and I have been through layoffs before and it is rugged, but you will find another job.)
A familiar story
Nothing other than the cost to company matters. So its very simple, if you are a high cost resource they will cut you no matter what your rating or performance when the time comes.
If a position has been eliminated, what can you do, really?
Were you fired, or were you RIFed? I mean, is there a package involved?
