Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

I’ve been job hunting like crazy for months

There’s absolutely nothing. I don’t know if it’s just bad luck or if the market is really this broken. If anyone has even the smallest positive story, please share. I need to hear that someone out there actually managed to land a decent job, or at least got an offer. I haven’t had a single callback. It’s infuriating and demoralizing. And now with layoffs hanging over us, I don’t even know how we’re supposed to keep it together.

I was an analyst out of the Nashville office and I was laid off last August. I was able to land something 6 months later and have been working ever since. The company is okay and I received a pay raise. I am one of the more fortunate ones time wise but it can be done. I think the best thing to do is be prepared to be patient and keep an open mind. A new opportunity may not be exactly what you want right now especially in this market but it could lead to something better down the line. Thats the way I look at it. Here are some tips that helped me:

  1. If you can afford it have your resume professionally looked over or redone.

  2. Don't rely solely on Linkedin and Indeed. I noticed some companies dont post all positions on sites. I would also go directly to companies sites and also use their job notifications.

  3. Network and go to career fairs. I found my current position through my neighbor so you never know.

  4. If you can also scout temp agencies. Sometimes they have things or know things about certain companies that may help your search.

I know it’s hard but don't give up and don't be discouraged. I hope this helps.

I've been looking for just over a year and tracking progress. Stats are:

58 jobs applied online
5 company call-backs that led to 1-3 rounds of interviews each.
1 cold recruiter reaching out to me that led nowhere
3 "get to know you" meetings thanks to networking - all held in the past 6 weeks that I'm still hoping might lead to something more.

It's rough out there, folks. Here's hoping we all land on our feet.

Funny how ppl like @a4 go out of their way to be so despicable. You must have a lot of hatred in your heart.

Been looking all year with no success. Not a single interview. (motion design) Depressing to say the least.

I don't really have any tips. But I was able to leave Para on my own terms a few months ago and landed at a smaller streamer, doing much more impactful work. I leveraged my network and asked for intros, and it paid off. Best of luck to everyone.

@a4 ‘this isn’t Reddit’.

Yea buddy, this is the rigidity that helped get us where we are today. If you have a job, you are likely not going to for much longer, and then you will understand why people are asking for help on the other side. Have a little compassion, Jesus.

Can we keep the discussions to layoffs news and RTO? This isn’t Reddit

We aren't supposed to keep it together, this world has only a few powerful rich people and they want everyone else to sl*** for them, that's all there is left for any of us to do now, not just the job market, everything is broken. And there is nothing that you can do about it.
