Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

A few people are sooo proud to work here

Their social media feeds are filled with showing off Nike WHQ and the experience. Their biggest achievement in their life is Nike, their identify is nike. Isn’t it sad.

They have a psychological need to belong and be part of a group. You see the same with hard core religious people and sports fans. Eh It’s their life. It may be foolish to dedicate a large part of one’s existence to a profit oriented entity but to each their own.

They are either in denial, inept, or numb. They will be commodified and disposed of like everyone else, but some may never learn why.

To escape the Nike caste system one must forego their impure desires and ritualistic behavior of posting about Nike on social media.

I loved Nike before working here and would if they fired me tomorrow. For many it is a career not just a job. You invest in your career and if you don’t believe and care about it or what you do then you will never make a difference. Many who see it as a job will never be able to see from the eyes of someone who is passionate about it from the career side and the difference this income can make in your life and for your family. You appreciate it more than merely seeing it as a job.

It’s like religion and everyone believes what they want to believe and be passionate about it in their own way. It’s part of their identity and a career is as well as a family and hobbies. To each their own and don’t view it as them being any lesser than the next person.

In my experience it’s all the Yokel Locals who grew up around this place and this was their version of “making it”. For the rest of us, a job is job. Someone on here talked about that they worked hard to get into Nike, when all it takes is applying. Yeah worse case it might take a couple of tries, but ultimately it’s all it takes. Nothing special about the process, just like nothing special about the company, or any company as a matter of fact.

A lot of people worked hard to get a job at Nike. Many not local U of Oregon or Oregon State alum. For many sport and Nike product is what they know even if they aren't from here. There's nothing wrong of being proud of yourself and the place you work. That used to be admirable.

It’s just a big company like any other. Imagine someone was like that about Levis or Coke. A person with Levi’s tats and whole life is Levi’s. Then they get laid off. Doh.
