Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What happens this week

Most senior leaders already know their roles. Some were informed months ago, others more recently.

Mid-level managers were notified last week about changes to their teams below a certain level. They received updated reporting structures and job titles for their direct reports. If any team members were being let go or given a choice regarding their role, those individuals were not listed.

Managers were simply told that they had someone affected, either through termination or an offered option, without further details.

The conversations with affected employees are being handled at higher leadership levels.

All conversations start on Tuesday. For people managers with larger teams, this may extend to Wednesday.

If no communication is received on Tuesday, it’s a strong sign that the role remains unchanged. If you also don’t hear anything on Wednesday, your position may depend on the decisions of others who were given options.

Fast follows will happen Thursday through Monday based how exits and option decisions unfold, as well as how leaders want to structure their teams.

I’ve heard from multiple sources that some entire functions, or nearly entire functions, will be wound down. The affected functions will not surprise anyone.

@dt no insights as to general structure. I have heard the specific cut number from two functions. Both seam broad and shallow rather than specific and deep. I believe you are right about that org.

@ds not a single senior director, VP, or GM I have spoken with will admit to being involved. Most have explicitly said they weren’t. Some VPs and GMs have been working to adjust their teams since receiving their rosters at the beginning of August.

@OP Any intel on the new structures? Will there be a VP for each FOP Function? (Product, Merch, Brand, Retail, IDSA, etc.)

Where are the cuts vs. team shifts? Assuming IDSA will see big cuts?

@OP very helpful. Does this mean SD had no say? All decisions were made VP above?

@d1 Please don’t dismiss this as speculation, it’s based on direct knowledge of the ongoing conversations. Nowhere was it stated that those being let go this week have already been informed, nor was it said that every conversation would take place on Tuesday. There is no intentional phasing, though it may appear that way since scheduling depends on the person conducting the discussions. All non-exit and option-related conversations are expected to conclude by Wednesday, except for those influenced by others’ decisions. Sit down and be thankful somebody with information cares enough to tell it straight.

@cj Yes. I used chatgpt to anonymize the text so some of the detail got lost.

Not true. This is pure speculation. I know people being let go next week who haven’t been informed yet. Also they will go in phases of groups - eg product, design, merch, innovation by day. Not all convos will happen Tuesday. Where are you getting your sources from?

What about the mid-level managers who are being laid off? Were they informed last Friday, or will they find out on Tuesday?
