And if they dont get enough heads in october in the past they kept the party going in November to thin the heard as well to juice the numbers. So same as it ever was. At least they dont do it christmas eve like AT&T was famous for.
@61j there have definitely been layoffs right before the holidays before, this company does not give a F
Yes. October is the last one before the end of the year due to holidays. They layoff on Thursdays middle of the month. I am in finance.
@zs our sr director said that a month before one of the biggest cuts. We see ppl with an expiration date literally every 2 weeks ppl are being let go.
October will be a bloodbath . It historically has. From Someone who has seen the list , I heard that historically October and April are usually the worst cuts but this year will most likely be bigger cuts than last.
@zs no leader in a townhall is going to say "yes, we are having layoffs next month"
The CIO of the West said in a TH that there were no further expected RIF this year. Could that change, sure but if you need to work and are worried, take charge of your career.
No one needs to stay. All have choices. It’s not easy but possible.
Got off a call in my department where the VP said we have committed to our business customers to be 20% “more efficient” in 2026 in Optum Tech initiatives. This usually means less headcount but unsure.
I'm in Optum Tech (not getting more detailed than that) and we had 2 people RIF'd from our team. Their last day will be this week. No warning that it was coming.
I have heard faint rumors in Optum Tech for October but nothing concrete enough to worry about yet.
@sd what area are you in?
@sd what area of optum?
Already received notification on my end of employees impacted on my team for October - they aren’t just rumors.
@OP nothing public. But business teams are being reported in sept. Some already done moving folks around. Which may result. Then usually tech reorg follows. So fits the pattern. But no hard information
@OP Once requisitions are put on hold, and they have been, historically layoffs are right around the corner. Look for “fat” at the top (already happening) and middle management along with the contracted market for possible layoffs. Not much to cut at the clinic level as most are already operating with staffing shortages.
Was told mid Sept and again in Oct
@m1 that wouldn’t surprise me since they have the Q3 call in October.
Optum Financial will be hit
End of October is the rumor. Of course that may change.
@jt Source?
End of September…
i find it pleasant not having to talk with a manager. Had so many over the years I handle things on my own since they are of zero use anyway for the past decade. I cant even remember most of their names since the lease on me usually only runs 12 to 15 mos anyway before we repeat the cycle with another name i will never meet in person.
Every week, slow leeching of blood. There isn’t going to be some dramatic purge.
The end goal is you share a manager with 15 people, never are able to talk to your manager at all ever, and any problems you have with the job or your role you figure out independently or quit.
Well if they are cutting back on Medicare advantage plans I guess they will be cutting staff at some point.
They
I heard there was a meeting last week of OptumTech GL32 and up to discuss one. Nothing else though.
