Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

This will be the bestest reorg there ever was

It’s not going to be like the last dozen reorgs over the years that reduced the workforce but accomplished absolutely nothing else. No, sir. This one is going to make real changes! Unlike all the others, we’ll finally see real improvements in results, not just a temporary bump because of layoffs. I’m telling you, this is it!

I keep thinking if you HAVE to lay off about 100 employees…. Why are you bothering to lay them off? You can’t slot, offer lateral or even demoted positions so they have a job? This strikes me as either one of two things: woefully under-thought or anxiously over-thought.

I'm actively blocked on doing the right thing. Why? People have agendas to fulfill. If I save money or make a current project work better, then there is less incentive to move to the new thing. I've gotten some harsh push back over the years. It's not worth it, I'd rather rest & vest.

The cold, hard truth is that half of Nike's corporate employees add no value or are value destructive. Show up to the office at 10am, leave for a workout and lunch from 1130 to 130pm head home at 4pm (but only Mon - Thurs, don't you dare schedule a meeting on Fri). There are no doubt some BRILLIANT people at Nike. They are just the small minority, and most eventually wake up the the fact that their efforts aren't being rewarded, so they too end up taking a hard right on to easy street. If every Nike employee worked as hard at their craft as the athletes the company sponsors, Nike would be a $1T company today.

Phil Knight once said "business is war without bullets". Nike as a brand and company wont return to strength until this mentality and intensity becomes the norm throughout the corporate employee base.

In paper: No doubt about it.
In reality: we will see
The hardest part is the implementation. Not the idea.

Yes! I heard we're moving from a matrix to something leadership is calling "the array"! A sort of n-dimensional hypercube of reporting lines and, one would assume, efficiency and $^n!
