Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

HUB or closing

OK, so I’ve been with AT&T for 14 years. right now, The building that we are in has been completely redone, new floors some new bathroom equipment, etc. we’re all wondering are we going to be a hub or are they going to close us? I’m in Florida. Does anyone have any information on that? Thank you in advance

@c7 do you in fact know that it was sold in 2018? As far as I know the deal failed due to constant issues with the requested repairs.

@cb Middletown is smoke and mirrors

Very low IQ post.

Known as Verizon country? No one calls it that. lol, you’re clearly not from the area. Your writing style also remedial which tells me you were not educated in the northeast.

NJ Warn Act? Lmao, clearly you’re not educated in this either. It’s literally intended to protect jobs in NJ and has no loop holes. It’s 50 employees every 30 days. If there were 10k employees in Middletown and they laid off 49 per 30 days it would take them 17 years to lay everyone off. You are low IQ

The AT&T building at 12150 Research Parkway, Orlando, Fl is a company owned 3-story building, with 2 wings. The main BUs are a Mobility Call Center on the entire 3rd floor, Mobility Collections on the 2nd floor and a variety of small offices on the 1st floor, including a drop in work space, Return Mail Center, Asset Protection, Cafeteria, etc.

@c9 Yep, that’s what I was told. It takes a bit longer, since the office workforce is primarily union. Takes longer for execs to conjure up all the lies they plan to give the CWA. The union doesn’t make it or you safe, it just takes mgmt longer to achieve their malicious goals.

Middletown is smoke and mirrors, it is known as Verizon country and they are expanding do the math. Plus NJ is another reason to leave due to the state policy if so many are let go they get a golden egg state layoff prize the company is mandated to pay so they will cut folks loss shy of that number and just keep cutting and cutting, the clueless with think not to bad they are only letting small number go. Lol

@b3 Charlotte has another site slated for 2026 near the Research address where they currently have over 400 employees. That Data center is close to a million square feet so not going anywhere, however AT&T sold this off in 2018. Imagine the value gained if they held onto this. There was another company out of Denver ready to invest 30 billion not far from Charlotte but was denied due to zoning dispute this past week.

There’s 3 offices still open in NJ and you’d see Paramus and Bedminster close years in advance of anything happening in Middletown.

...and I was forced to move/compute from Middletown to Atlanta to keep my job. With the seating arrangements, I can collaborate better from MDT!!

The only building the company actually owns is NJ, that will actually be the last one standing next to Dallas and ATL.

Agreed, NJ is far too essential to close and has the added benefit of being owned. We are currently undergoing extensive and expensive remodeling of the entire inside and they’re creating all new labs with some serious Chiller capabilities. In addition, NJ was ATT HQ for a long time. There’s 3 offices still open in NJ and you’d see Paramus and Bedminster close years in advance of anything happening in Middletown.

Plus, where you think all the H1Bs are? Lol

Not sure where in FL you are located, but the Orlando Research Pkwy Call Center was definitely on the decomm list as of last year.

Going to be sold off. Also Atlanta is going to be gone long term. Just too many people and important work being done there to eliminate it yet, they are doing a phased approach. They aren’t backfilling much in Atlanta. All the jobs go to Dallas.

@aj what about the data center in Charlotte? How do you abandon that one I heard it was a pretty substantial data center.

“Hub” doesn’t mean anything.

Just put your head down and keep working and don’t worry about it.

More likely the building owner is expecting AT&T to leave and they are dressing it up to lease to a better company. Happening in my area as well. AT&T does not own a lot of office space. Once it is fully depreciated, they sell and lease it back from a CRE company. If there are not bucket trucks parked outside or relay racks inside, the company probably rents it.

"What website to go to see which buildings AT&T owns vs leases?"

Ask CRE

No. They are just dressing the building up to sell it. Why would Florida be a hub? The idea is to reduce locations, not expand them.
