Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Yup they planned layoff right after folks retirement.

They avoid handing out severance for folks intending to retire in 2022. 5% layoff within CDO to be announced in January 2023.

I was at AT&T for 15 years. Layoffs have happened every single year...even during the "good times".

"Why is this shocking. They said they were going to if enough people didn’t retire."

There's no excuse for not figuring the budget issue out in time to do the layoff by 11/30, so that anyone impacted would get the higher lump sum if that's the pension option they'd choose.

No excuse.

'A real man/woman/manager/leader would reduce his/her/its salary to ONE DOLLAR a year and retain employees before terminating employees"

Go ahead, you first...

Sure did! All the info about possible staff reductions, as well as a fair effort to educate people about how interest rates affect pensions has been pretty clear.

So... Folks at risk can decide for themselves if the pension reduction due to rate changes or the severance is more valuable to them.

What is CDO? Chief Data Office seems like a really derogatory name. Maybe Commander Data Office?

Surprising to see layoffs for this group. Maybe they optimized all the truck routes possible and can't generate any more savings?

To the company it’s business, to you/me it’s personal. I just look at it this way, if it’s my time, it’s my time. Nothing I can do to stop it. Just network and apply for jobs.

A real man/woman/manager/leader would reduce his/her/its salary to ONE DOLLAR a year and retain employees before terminating employees and maintaining or giving themselves a raise - ESPECIALLY since the same person(s) caused the current financial situation.
Division up to CEO should be given stock options instead.

Layoffs are just business. When companies struggle with cash flow, this is the only savings lever T can pull right now. Not a good place for the company right now. It will bounce back one day.

When it is you losing your job it is personal - not business.
